More power for a zc???
Hi, just looking for ideas for getting more hp from a zc. Allready have header, Tbody, teg ecu, aem intake. I only use it for track events. Any ideas not to crazy. I was thinking about getting the head worked on. Anybody tried that with a zc? Or how about different pistons? What should I do? Thanks
bore it to a 1.8 with JE pistons with a 9.0 compression and add 15lbs of turbo boost...
or add 55hp shot of Nitrous
or do some headwork, with cams being reground by webcam...

there is a zc crx here that i think is running stock internals, but its turbo'd theres a dyno day comming up and ill try to find out more and post what it does, its a real sweet car and i wana see it hit some high numbers
ok at the track there was a car that was exactly like mine, 91 civic hatch teal with a zc, now he built it up with srp 10.5 pistons, crower rods, greddy turbo kit running 15lbs and he got a 13.6 at the track...not bad...

Thanks for the ideas, but not sure that the turbo or motor would hold up for 3+track hours a weekend. And what about turbo lag?? If I could find 20-30 more hp and keep it together that would be great. Anymore ideas???
Port and Polish the head, Crower cams, 3 or 5 angle valve job and maybe some high compression pistons. That'll get you up there.
By the way, what throttle body do you have?

Get an Unorthodox flywheel (if you have a standard tranny). It ways like 6 pounds. Thats a lot lighter than the 35 pound stock one. The bad thing is it coust about $500. Also try adjustable cam gears and pulleys they are a bit cheaper and will add hp.
Clutchmasters also makes a light flywheel that weighs 7.5 lbs. and costs $329 at Modacar.com. http://www.modacar.com/honda/framese...heel_honda.htm

And nitrous is not the best bang for the buck. After buying bottle after bottle of nitrous the cost adds up and before you know it you've spent more than a good turbo set-up would have costed you. After that stupid Fast & The Furious movie came out everyone seems to think "NOS" is the best and only way to go...well,it's not.

In addition, yes cam gears will get you extra power. I have seen numbers as high as whp from using cam gears on a ZC. However, where you gain that 8 hp, there will be a loss of 8 hp somewhere else in your powerband. This is just the natue of that modification. Keep in mind this is not neccesarily a bad thing. In cars where you are primarily in higher RPMs it is good to add hp in the high end. Also, in order to truly take advantage of adjustable cam gears you will need access to a dyno where you can properly tune them in. This can cost upwards of $150 an hour (some cheap than others and vise versa). So consider those things before you go and buy adjustable cam gears.

Jackson Racing makes a ZC-specific supercharger....
Not as much flexibility as a turbo, but it installs easy, costs less, is probably more reliable and doesn't lag. I think it adds around 40hp, but I may be off on that...
I've been considering going that route myself...

I had a turbo zc (stock internals) for over 2 years with 8-10 psi and didn't have any trouble with it. Turbo 'lag' can be controlled, and actually there is none with a small turbo like the td04 in the greddy kit.
Umm, that's not so good for those times. I know someone with a bone stock ZC running 8 psi of boost and he ran a 13.4. This is in a CRX, all he did to prepare for that run was drop the PSI in his tires a few pounds.
Unless this guy you talk about has some realy bad 60' times or something-hen that number would seem better...but to be running 15 psi and only run a 13.6 doesn't seem right. shold be well into the 12s. He should find a dyn and have that biznitch tuned!

well this was a 91 civic hatch with full interior including system...dont know how much more that would ad, but he is selling it none the less...
I haven't seen it run, but there's a guy who works at Epic Motorsports in San Diego with a turbo'ed ZC CRX running in the 10's from all reports... I think his name is Dan, but don't quote me on that...

Has anyone been told that the JC supercharger would not fit with a crx or civic body zc motor? I heard that it hits the fire wall. Would a greedy street turbo hold up?
