wen do u change timing belt?
right now im at about 53,XXX when do i change my timing belt and water pump? wat should i look at changing around now....i bought the car wid 45,xxx.
Her's the deal with me...i have a 91' integra with a B18A......i had to change my timng belt about 100k ......so probley you still have some time on it...but better change before then b/c you don't want to mess up your rods or anything like that
before it breaks. onda states 90k miles. but the norm for most cars is 60k. i'd get it done as a piece of mind. nothing like having a timing belt break. i've been there, not fun at all. luckily it was on a subaru which use non-interferrence engines. so no damage.
Replace at 90k. Replacing it anytime sooner means you are WASTING your money. On my 94gsr, I didn't replace my timing belt and water pump till 108k miles and even then, the mechanic said I could had gone another 10k miles easily.
The only time I can see where you will need replace the timing belt earlier was if you car was a drag or track car.

my stock one was at 126,XXX now thats a big risk and im lucky. i have heard 60K and 90K not shure. also when you do the belt do the belt, tensioner and H2o pump all at one time. inline4.com sells the intire kit pretty cheap...

I don't exactly see "peace of mind" as a waste, but stock timing belts have been known to handle well past 90k.

ok i got my car inspected at 76k. the mechanic asked if i had the belt replaced at 60k i said no. he told me it looked like it should be replaced soon. well i got the belt replaced wehn i got the money whihc wa slike 88k. my mechanic said it was a good thing cuz the belt was all cracked. i took a loko at it and most the the teeth were cracking off.
so saying replacing the belt at 60 is wasting your money is ******* retarded.
if you replace at 60k intervals, byy the time you reach 360k miles. you'll only replace the T-belt 2 more times then if you used 90k intervals, and i dunno about my math but i don't think that the money saved in two less belt changes would equal enough to cover a new head, valves, valve guides, possibly a piston or two when that sucker breaks
best bet is to check your belt every 30k miles, take the time to remove the cover and rotate the crank by hand check every inch of the belt. then decide when u need to replace it.
or shell out a couple hundred for a heavy duty belt, like a kevlar one, or one from toda.

i know my timing belt was last replaced at 112k, but now i have 165k....i'm probably gonna wait till i get up to 180k or so to replace it.........or unless i end up rebuilding my motor to put in some newer/better goodies
then i'll just replace ever maintenance part from there...

Depends on how hard you drive the car. I would CHECK it at 60k and depending on wear, replace it or check it more often.
Having a timing belt snap is NOT something everyone can afford.

ok, you don't have to replace your water pump at every change if your doing 60k intervals, but it's reccommended, just check it for wear and replace every other. or every belt change if your doing 90k
one thing to understand is that mostly all imports (except subaru, that i know of) have whats called interference engines. which means, if the valve is opened FULLY, and the piston is moved to TDC they will contact. of course this is not how they are set when the motor is running.
so when the belt breaks the cams stop but the pistons do not, some people get lucky and the cams stop in the right spot where nothing touches. others aren't so lucky. so honestly, ask yourself, do you feel like having the down time replacing your head/valves, and possibly some pistons? and yes even brand new belts with like less 3k on them have broken cuz they were too tight, so make sure it's done right.
my friend has a 92 civic DX, 206K miles on the STOCK clutch. still grabs really good. does not slip when you get on it either. motor has a chip, crank pulley, intake, exhaust, thing pulls pretty good for a civic. he doesn't beat on it that much. so i figure he's got a lot more miles left on the clutch. holler @ exedy's quality
