engine died...while driving...oil pressure light on
I already did a search but could not find anything similar to what happened to my car ('90 RS - B18A1 - 58,000 miles)
I was driving at about 45-50mph on 4th gear when suddenly I felt the car losing power, naturally out of habit I down shifted to 3rd thinking that I was just in the wrong gear. After downshifting and stepping on the gas, still no power and then the oil pressure light came on...and I just let the car coast to the side of the road. The car cranks but just won't turn over
So far, I've already check the fuel delivery...and it's good. I've replaced the oil pressure switch. I've checked the ECU and i'm not getting any codes...What else can I check???
Could it be the oil pump??? How hard and how much is it to replace the oil pump???
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Believe me, if your oil pump stopped pumping oil to the motor...you would know it! Bearings are the first thing to go!
Does your motor have a "tick" or a "knock" to it at all ?

Kinda the same thing happened to me this weekend. Except my oil light didn't come on. I was probably going about 40 coasting downhill. Took it out of 4th and was going to put it in 3rd, when I noticed my tach was at 0, and the gauge lights were on. My car just died. No noise or anything. So I coasted over to the side of the road. Tried to start it, and it just sounds like a starter spinning, and not cranking anything over. I pop the hood to check things out. Everything seems cool. I have a small part of the rear timing belft cover cut out cause the cam gears were rubbing on it. And I look in there and see the belt is not on the cam gear. DAMNIT. I heard of this happening to people and them blowing up their motors. Well I call up one of my friends and tell him what happened. Since I was out of gear he said it might be cool. So I have the car towed home. Start taking crap off. The belt broke and stayed pretty much in place, and didn't get pulled down around the bottom. So he said that was a good sign. The only thing was that one of the cams was a little farther ahead than that other. I go down, get a new timing belt, water pump, and tensioner. $200 and about 3 hours later my car is back on the road. Could have been a lot worse.
So what I guess I am saying is, did you check your timing belt?

i would say spark too. cuz if you step on the gas and it just bogs and slows down your either not getting spark of fuel. and you checked fuel. and if you had lost oil pressure, the engine woulda ran till it siezed. definatly check spark.
oh yeha and the oil light comes on anytime the key is in the on poisition and the car is not running. same with the battery (charging) light. did that come on too?

deepgreengsr: there is definitely oil...I just changed it about a month ago and the dipstick indicates halfway between L --- H

Thanks to everyone for their input...I will post again once I've gone through all the suggested tests...

W3rd on the distributor thing. I had my coil go out on me and it sounds like that could be what's happening to you. However! At close to 60K on the motor, I'd also check the timing belt. DO THAT FIRST. You don't want to be turning that motor over if the timing belt has slipped or is busted. I got a friend that died out on the freeway and as a result of numerous times trying to restart it, he bent 7 valves. Mind you, he is not a noob either. It just didn't seem logical to him that the belt snapped. It was just changed.
