Default Well this just blows!

I havent been able to start my car since thursday, today my mechanic finally told me that my timing is off 1/4 a turn....

He believes the key way that makes the gear that drives the timng belt on the car is spun...anyone know how much this is going to cost me without labor? Is this a bioch to do? Daym this sucks

i don't really understand what you are saying but, if it is with your timing belt it will probably be expensive

.....typically the cam gear keys don't go bad since they are part of the cam itself.

Is this a mini me project or anything? Or all stock?
What motor?

its not the cam gears...its the gear that drives the timing belt, that is spun apparently

wow are u serious man???

no more short shifter action

anyways...did the key go bye bye or did the groove where the key sits go bad?

oh and did you mechanic take off the crank pulley bolt or did he eyeball it? and make sure the key slipped?

i dont see how a key can slip so bad that it'd wreck the crank/or cams.

pop the bolts off and check yourself.

maybe your timing belt jumped a tooth because its too loose?

if its the key on the crank. then it will either be an easy cheap fix by replacing the woodruff key. or it could be really expensive if the slot that holds the key is wrecked. then youd have to replace the crank itself.

check your crank pulley, the middle of the pulley could just split in half, cause the middle of the pulley had a rubber between it. after awhile the rubber dry out and crack.
