Default what kind of cage should i put in?

my friend has done some cages and im really impressed with his work so i was thinking about getting him to do one for my hatch. since i dont really know all that much about them i figured i'd try to get some suggestions and some pics from anyone on here that has or knows about them. i want something that will give me good protection, relitive easy getting in and out of and use to my back seat. i plan on taking it to the track so i need something that will work for that but i plan to daily drive the car too so it has to be able to work for that too. pics would be great so i can give him a idea of what to go by. ill post pics after the install

before you put a cage in... lets ask this...

Do you road race?
what horsepower do you have?
what times have you run?

also if your friend does it you have to take it somewhere to get certified it desn't count if its just there. when its required by drag strip or whatever your racing

yeah, it would be a waste of money if you want to put it in just to have a roll cage.

i don't think many people would recommend a full cage in a daily driven car...it's dangerous. Perhaps what would work better for you would be a roll bar.

How would a cage be dangerous? Wouldn't added reinforcement be more safe regardless of the driving situation?

a full cage for the street is dangerous because if you get into an accident, you have a bunch of bars near your head. It's not as much of a concern on the track because you're wearing a helmet and will probably have padding on the bars. I don't think the guy really needs a full roll cage anyway. Maybe a roll bar...just my .2 cents

no no no... You don't want a cage in a street car, because a standard 3 point seatbelt does not hold you very well... it stops you from flinging forward... But if the car were to ever roll, you being able to fly forward like that will allow your head to not get crushed by the roof caving in.

When you have a roll cage, if you don't have an aftermarket 4-5 point harness and you get into an accident, you can hit the rollcage and cause more injury, because the seatbelt does not hold you solid.

When you run a 4-5 point harness, you actually SHOULD have a cage. The way the harness supports you now, if you ever rolled your car, you can not roll yourself left/right/forward to avoid the roof coming crushing in on you because your shoulders are on lockdown... This is where the CAGE part comes in... The cage prevents the roof from coming in and turning your large egg shaped head into a crushed ham & cheese omelette.

Now as far as a comparison between road race/drag race, here's the deal... When you road race, you have people around you... You have alot more objects you could hit... So you need stronger door reinforcements than you do in drag racing. Drag racing cages are structured more for a chassis strengthening, and preventing damage in a rollover for the most part. Which is why a standard "drag" cage consists of 80% of behind the driver seat and only 20% in front of it.

Now as far as putting one in your "street car"... If you have a 92 CX Hatch, DONT BOTHER... All you are going to do is slow your car down. All your doing is adding weight. Not to mention when you pull up next to mr v6 mustang and get beat by him with your 8 valves of terror he is going to think he beat somethign worth while, or that you are a total ricer.

I could say more, but i dont feel like it

my ***** itch... pretty much if you are putting a cage in your car for bling and just because its going to be cheap then you deserve to be hurt... dont e race and say you plan on doing this but you really aint doing **** because that doesnt help your argument.

You want to put a cage in the car I hope you at least have some bucket seats in your car and harness belts to hold you down.

Cause you are going to get fucked up thinking your car is invincible now with teh cage...

happy ricing pimp juice lol.

At the most, you should probably get a 4 point roll bar with a diagonal brace and a harness bar.

As far as the rear seat goes, it should be used for storage only, not people. Too much metal back there to hurt yourself on.

just do a search of this site under "rollbar", "rollcage", "roll bar", and "roll cage" and make sure you check recent and archived posts. All the information and pictures you'll need in determining your particular needs with regards to running a roll cage or roll bar etc etc.

what kind of HP do you have? What is your current car setup? In order to make a cage recommendation you need to know these things

I currently have a Competition Engineering 6pt in my car. Very soon I'm going to be removing the front bars though, because it has become such a pain in my *** sliding over top of them all the time. You really don't need anything more than a 4pt in a street car, and even then you only MIGHT need it, depending on what you use your car for.

Does anyone know if you get the autopower street-sport, the one with just the horizontal harness bar, if you can still use your back seats and people fit back there?
