can v-afc be used as a tachometer?
i'm wondering can apexi vafc be used just as a tachometer for a non-vtec engine? because rather than spending 100+ dollar for a tachometer for my DX i might as well buy a used vafc.
i thought you can get vafcs for 150. and i don't really like 5" tachometer. plus i might be needing it when i get started on my mini-me..i think in the long run i'll save more money.
You could use it, but make sure to put it in a place where you don't have to look way from the road to see it (maybe on top of the steering column). I have my AVC-R in my glove box and it's not the safest place to keep looking when you're hauling ***

my tach is about 50 off when idling... at redline its almost 350 -
The vafc i have is mounted above steering wheel, even when viewing only one control (like rpm's .. throttle ... vtec engagement ... psi all that ****) its still hard to see because its fuckign 4 numbers flying uplike crazy - its like a digital tach on pontiacs, it would be hard to get it right at redline each time - its good to find right redline tho
this is what i mean ... this is a shot from my car ...

Yeah when I had my prelude for all of 2 days it had a VAFC in it and when I was diagnosing my RPM and VTEC problems it was VERY hard to drive and read the VAFC. It was mounted on the center console.
I did the same thing you did... My very first mod on my dx was a v-afc....
DAMN DO I REGRET IT!
If i where you i would definitly not do this, there are also many reasons linked to this.
1) stock civic w/ V-AFC??
2) Very hot, theifs will want it no matter what... Then you will have a broken window or something and a loss of a vafc.
3) very hard to read while driving, yeah it looks really cool, and trust me that is the main reason why you want it, but for driving it isnt functional.
So i say go to a junkyard or look on the classfieds for new cluster, they run for like 50 bucks for the ex cluster...
Or you could get the sir2 cluster that looks really cool, just as cool as a V-AFC

nope NaVamous, DX doesn't have a tach. that;s how cheap *** it is. i just remember "shifting point" i.e 32 mph for first gear...and "engine noise"

just buy a stock cluster with a tach. the harness already has the plugs and tach signal. just take out the one you have on now and place the new one in with the tach.
