Default Help, need help pricing my high mileage R!

hi, everyone. i've finally decided to sell my 98 cw R after 6 years of ownership.
i have seen a lot of ppl asking help for pricing their low mileage R on here, but i have yet to see any high mileage R like mine for sale. the car is still going strong. i would say the car is in very good condition mechanically! and it still looks gorgeous to me.

this itr has slightly over 100K miles on the car, clean title, never been raced or modified, it's my daily driver mostly driven on the highway (u can see that from the mileage). front bumper has tons of stone chips which needs to be repainted, side skirt is cracked but i bought a new one in the junkyard from another cw R which also needs to be repainted, i also have aftermarket spoiler put on when the car was new (the biggest mistake done on the car)and sold the original right after, but i bought back another oem R spoiler which also needs to be repainted, there are also some door dings on both sides of the rear quarter panels.

i'm from canada, and i still have the "how to import a car to the states" link
i've check the traders. all of them are selling for over 16k.

the questions are:
1)how much is a reasonble price to sell (not ask) my car if i can wait, it will just be sitting in my garage?
2)should i fix all of the above? or sell it as is with all the parts unpainted and lower the price 1k?

thanx in advance to all

Has it been maintained right with all the service records are avalible upon request?

If so then take no less then 14,000 usd for it.
Don't give in for a fast buck.

i've been using synthetic oil everyday 5k to 8k miles (sometimes i do 8k miles of hwy driving in less than two months, 1k mile trips without cold starting), and most of the major works have records of course like bearing and timing belt change

i'm looking at around 14,000 +/-, if anything lower then 14K, i would rather keep it. no rush sell for me

16,000 is too much for a 98 itr with over 100k... check the classifieds... 2000 to 2001 itrs with like 30,000 - 50,000miles are going for that price.. I'd say keep the car if u are not pressed to sell...

you forgot that they dont make them anymore. therefore you do not go by bluebook.

do you think a 72 corvette would really go for $500 in mint condition...didnt think so.

they dont make 2000 to 2001 itrs anymore either... the mileage is really high... I honestly dont think u'd find someone to buy it for 16k... If I had to choose between an 00/01 itr and a 98 itr with twice the mileage for the same price... why would i choose the 98?

I bought mine with 130,000 miles for $13,000. Car had a new block and new A/C, timing belt, water pump, etc. And that was from a "dealer" if you could call them that. Basically some punk-*** kid traded in my car, payed it no respect motor or interior-wise and got himself a Supra. The dealer told me they just wanted to get rid of the Type R because they didn't want to deal with "low-end" cars anymore. I couldn't be happier with it. I couldn't afford any more at the time.

Are you nuts? That car is worth $10-$11K tops! I have a '00 with 14K miles on it in "****" as new condition, all stock and I'm having a hard time getting offers over $19K. Type R's have gone down in value significantly since the introduction of the SRT-4, RX8, EVO and STI to the US market. I think some of you guys need a reality check in terms of what your R is worth. Not to mention a used S2K can be had for 2/3 it's original cost and the insurance on a stook is WAAAYYY cheaper than an R.

No one is going to pay "top dollar" for an R anymore when it's most likely out of warantee and it's replacement parts are slowly but surely becoming obsolete, regardless of mileage, age, and condition.

I agree. With especially high mileage, I'd be happy with $13k..

I'd pay 12k at most based your description without pictures.

don't tell people that you changed the oil every 5k-8k miles. It's debateable about when to change the oil and most people like the 3k rule. Just something i thought of when reading your post.

i think you're nuts for thinking you can get over $19k for your car. Man that's high for a 4+ year old integra.

but, I do agree with you on this guy's car. I'd say $11k is a good deal.

ya i know a lot of ppl out there are changing their oil every 3k miles, as i said most of my driving are on the highway and i can do 500miles trip without a single cold start, and i drive just 70miles/hr on the hwy just to keep rev under 4krpm

i dont' care about 30 bucks an oil change, but i think it is just unnecessary for changing it so often with my type of daily driving. and i have done a lot of research saying that synthetic can last over 10k miles, anyways... i wouldn't lie to my buyer!

on the autotrader's, both in canada and in the US, there is nothing under 16kUS or 20k CDN, so i think if i can wait a bit, 14k is not too much to ask.
that's why all those R's are still on the autotrader for half a year and still posting!
and i agree with u guys that with all those new cars coming out, R are depreciating! but i believe there are still someone out there who has to have a typeR!

thanx for all the replies! to everyone

With probably only 3000 or so remaining ITRs, we control the price by what we sell them at. Down screw up everyone else by going for a fast buck.

I would say $15,000 firm.

it's called supply and demand. you can TRY and sell them at whatever you want but you'll see there's not a ton of demand in general and if you want to sell it you'll have to lower your prices. I don't know if it's the time of year or not but for some reason in the used car market right now it's a buyer's market. Used car prices are just really low.

$15k is crackhead prices for a 100K+ mile integra that's 6 years old. Good luck.

jmb on this board sold his 98 R with over 100K miles for about $14K. But his was in much better condition than yours (based on your description without pics).

So IMO you should expect something around $12K to $13K.

You can argue all you want about what makes prices go up or down, but the fact is, the market is too big for any of us to influence it by "holding out for a higher price". It's all about supply and demand. If you ask too high a price, it won't sell.

If you want to get a good idea of prices, go on Autotrader and check what people are asking. You'll get a range of prices for cars with similar year and mileage. Ignore the few prices that are considerably higher than others, as "wishful thinking", and see where the rest of the asking prices are. Keep in mind that these are asking prices, and most folks (buyers AND sellers) expect to negotiate downward at least $1-2K to reach the final, actual selling price. And keep in mind that selling prices at dealers may be slightly higher than from individuals (although IMO dealers may be willing to drop their prices during negotiations more than private sellers).

I agree with Wai's assessment. I'd settle for $14K for a higher-mileage ITR without the faults you mention (Canadian car, needs body work). Taking these faults into account, $12-13K USD (probably more like $12K than $13K) sounds about right to me. I would probably list it as $13,500 or best offer, and go from there.

after some thinking, maybe i'll just keep the R cuz:
i probably can not sell for what i originally wanted, i'll just probably just keep it till there is a good buyer. i won't sell it for cheap for sure.
i probably won't fix anything on the car just because of all the thieve issue going on with the R, maybe it's just vitually another layer of security
and the CRV we have, what i will be driving if i do sell the R, is relatively problematic, bearing twice inner tie rod bushings roll bar links all the locks and some more squeaking in the front, can anymore tell me why this honda product needs so much unscheduled maintenance with just over 100k clicks? bad road? bad shocks?
