Most Hondas have a narrow rpm range where they make the most power, a 6 speed gear box has the ratios closer together so you can make better use of the power band. The downside is that you tend to shift more often.

nope. its an overdrive.

the tremec t-56 has 2 overdrives. thats how a vette can get 35+mpg on the highway and still reach 170mph.

yes there is....its called, shorter gears = faster acceleration.......keeping the gears spaced right at the power band is what the 6th gear, much less, when you add a sixth gear all the rest of the gears are spaced closer together....

take for instance...the RSX type-s has the SAME final drive ratio as the civic Si... the gears are spaced closer together, to make it short, if the RSX type-s had a 7200 rpm cut off like the EP3 Si, they would both top out at the same speed....get me?

nope. a 5-speed with overdrive is a 5-speed where 5th gear is the overdrive.

you can go 70@3k because at 3K i'm only at 65/66mph... 6 speed is cool because of the faster acceleration but the 6th gear in the rsx i'm not too happy about it's too short for an overdrive...go any faster than 65-70 on the freeway gives poor gas mileage plus at the higher rpm lot's of noise

the C5 isn't limited. it can reach 174.2 mph. the Z06 with a shorter final drive will reach about 155 mph. don't believe me? wonder over to http://www.corvetteforum.com or http://www.z06vette.com
my friend with a 405hp Z06 has reached 158mph(indicated) at texas world speedway near bryan, texas.

and the top speed record of the new C6 is 186mph. same tranny with a new 5th gear. and now, the windows won't pop out of the frame.

now, an automatic could be a different issue with top speed.
