Default oil control orifice

I read that h22a motors dont need the oil control orifice. I searched it but it didn't say why. This is for a 2000 h22a motor. Can anybody help??

Well an H22 does "need" the oil control orifice meaning it needs the oil control orifice unplugged so that oil can flow to the head for vtec. H23s have the oil control orifice plugged because they are basically the same block as an h22. That is why when people put an H22 Head on an H23 Block this plug has to be removed to allow oil flow to operate vtec. And that is why people have to run an external oil line for LS/VTECs and B20/VTECs because those blocks due not come already plumbed for vtec. SO yes you do "need" the oil control orifice meaning you already have one and it needs to stay unplugged for vtec to function .

what the man is trying to say is, no dont install the oil control plug, leave the oil passage open, so the head can have oil for vtec functionality

no, you don't understand, you don't need the plug, if you lost it , it doesn't matter. read the h23 vtec thread, you do NOT need the plug

ooOOOOooooo, I thought the oil control orifice is something else than a plug. I was gettin mixed up. So I can put the head together without using the oil control orifice, but put a O-ring in it?? thanks

an orifice is a hole. both H23 and H22a have them. it's just that the H23 has an extra 'plug' in the hole to restrict oil flow to the head.
