Signs of a failing Fuel pump ?

Exactly what happened when my fuel pump went out. At about 5500 rpm the motor would lose power and the fuel pressure would drop down to under 20psi. A/F ratio went up to 17 to 1. A Walbro 255 fixed that.

Well I don't lose power high rpm... but I'm just trying to figure out a gremlin... thought it might be the pump.
So bad top end performance... anything else ?

That was the only symptom that I had with my car.

When the fuel pump on my old car went out, it would just stop working about every 300 miles. The car would just start bucking, then stall. It would turn over and not start. If you let it sit for about an hour or so, it would fire right up. Then 300 miles or so later, the same thing would happen again.

but if the gauge is under the hood, how would you ever be able to see it while driving?
my cx's fuel pump was going out and wouldn't start sometimes, even after you just turned the car off. only was i knew was i listened for the pumo to kick in and it wouldn't. upgraded to a walbro 255 and no problems since.

mmmmm, you cant.....
I was obviously talking about if you have a fuel pressure gauge inside the car.

Well sounds similar to my issue.
At some points, the car will shut off or won't start. It just turns over. Then I leave it for 2-10 mins, it starts right up. It seldom happens, but it does happen.
I didn't think it was the fuel pump at first, but....hrmmmm
