Default Broken Header Bolt

Hey guys,
Don't know how it happened but I broke one of the bolts to bolt down my header. I was installing my DC Sports Headers and guess I overtighten. Any tips on how to get that sucker out?

Thanks.

Were your bolts all rusted out????

where did it break?

Is it flush with the surface?

Answer these questions and we will see..

Do you mean one of the stud off your cylinder head?

If so i had that same problem when i installed my DC. Apparently they did not make their welds correctly so one of the bolts would not completely fit.

If that's the case you have to drill into the broken stud, then use a reverse drill bit and drill the sucker out. It's a very intensive process b/c you have to drill perfectly straight otherwise you might end up drilling elsewhere causeing more problems.

go to a muffler shop, my friend had a broken header bolt and they welded the head of another bolt to the tip of the broken bolt and then took it out.

that would work if the bolt broke out side of the block, hell, just dremel a slot and take it out with a long screw driver.

those craftsman drill out wouldnt do it tho'

I broke mine off also, putting back on my stock header. I broke the stud next to the alternator or starter not sure, but the damn thing is in the way..

I still have not fixed mine for about 4 months, since I need to remove all the crap in the way, to drill it out...

Someone wanna fix mine for me.... I've got the new stud from Honda

The one near the alternator is the same one that I broke. I bought a replacement one at honda for like $4. The only issue is geting the old one out. Unfortunetly there's no piece outside the head. I'm going to try go get you guys a picture.

The reason your bolt broke is because it tempered itself and became brittle..

Ok, here's what you need to do:

1. Try to drill it a hole in it using a dremel or drill if you can...
2. Heat up the bolt a bit
3. grab some paraffin (stuff you cook with) and stick it on the broken stud - you are trying to work the paraffin inside the threads.
4. Grab and easy out and work it in the hole you drilled and turn clockwise, counter clock wise to work it out. If after 3 minutes or so this does not work, wait a while to let things cool down and repeat the steps....
