where is the vtec solenoid and the knock sensor?
my vtec is not hitting as hard. well i can barely feel it or hear it. so i figured it might be the vtec solenoid. how do i access that and check to see if its cloged? and how do i unclogged it? also whats a knock sensor and where do i find that?
sorry for the noob question
sorry for the noob question
vtec solenoid is on the passenger side of the engine, or distributor side, right in front of the dizy actually on the end of the exhaust cam.
knock sensor is on the back of the block
knock sensor is on the back of the block
See the thing the plug wires are resting on? Thats the VTEC syl.

there's 2 10mm bolts holding the vtec syl. on. when you take it off there's a little screen/film that collects crap from your oil. I use it to check for rod bearing wear. If there's metal flakes in there you might have a problem.

Simply unbolt it from the head (# of bolts depends on if it's DOHC or SOHC). When you remove it, you'll notice there is a metal screen gasket that both seals it and helps to prevent any debris from clogging the solenoid.
Get some brake cleaner or WD40 and spray down the metal screen, and all over the inside of the solenoid. You might as well test the solenoid while it's out, simply run a wire to a +12V source and plug it into the solenoid wire, then touch the body of the solenoid on a ground (ie use + battery wire to connect to solenoid, then touch the solenoid on the engine block to activate). You should the see insides move.
Good luck!

will try it to clean it when i get home. it should take no more that 30 min right?
and what about the knock sensor? whats does that do?
