Building an LS head, Need some advice
My plans are LS head, with crower 403's titanium retainers, and dual valve springs. I need to replace the cam seals, and clean everything up real nice (bought the stuff used). I am going to get a hondata IM gasket, and a new head gasket and timing belt. Does anyone have any good tips for me? This will be my first build.
I bought the head so I can work on it over time because I cant afford that much down time, and I wanna learn it with out rushing. Basically what I need to know is, is there anything else I need to replace while im in there? And what should my lash settings be with the crowers?
B18B's dont have cam bearings? I noticed there were no bearings for the cams.

assembly/break in lube everything up there and set the lash to stock spec. if your doing the valve train, maybe try and at least put in some tapered intake stainless valves (thinner stem in the port area) for more airflow.
don't use the stock ls intake manifold. try and use a skunk, itr or b16 modded to fit the head. if you are interested in a '00 si intake manifold already made to fit a ls head then pm me for details and pics.

new valve seals, guides, valves..... the stock LS mainfold is good for stock LS motors, if you bump up the compression, say 11.8-12.5:1 then go with SKUNK2 mani... good luck on your build up...
What kinda seals and O rings do I need to get, is there a whole kit I can buy to get all of them? Do i need two cam seals? or does the distributor side have a seal on it?

stock LS IM doesn't flow as well as the other ones mentioned...i.e. Skunk2...etc.,

What about head studs? isnt it true that once the old ones have been torqued down they strecth? So wont I have to get new head studs?
yes that is true about the head studs, get ARP head studs jsu as a suggestion u may wanna get a thiner head gasket to bump comressiona little nothing wrong witha little pep, also before u put the head back on u have to have it resurefished, so have it milled .020-.030 wouldnt hurt
Im not sure how much money im gunna have after buying everything, so im not sure if I will have the cash to get it milled. If I check the deck for warpage myself and there is none then I should be good right?
All you need to check for deck warpage is a straight edge and feeler gauges, and the sequence is straight accross the bores in 5 spots, angled from one corner to the other in 5 spots and angled the other way in 5 spots. If no feeler gauges fit then you should be golden.
HOLY ****! I went to get my straight edge and well some ****** dropped it or some **** and now its not straight. SO, I went to home depot, pep boys, kragen, lowes and not a god damn one of them sells a true straight edge. They just sell rulers or t squares and **** like that. Does anyone know where to get a REAL straight edge besides the $300 snap on one?
K, I pulled apart the head its now down to the bare head. What should I use to clean the carbon out of the Exhaust ports and the valves?

Try brake cleaner or carb cleaner.
If you are having them head re-surfaced just have your machine shop hot tank it.
