Default an awesome ball joint story, know the power of WD40

first of all, check out my site to see what I've got. its sweet.
http://www.cardomain.com/id/zcnos

I got my b16a on the way for my 89 Si hatch. One of the first steps to removing the engine is getting the ball joints out of the control arm.

the driver side one came out with one swing with a 5lb sledge.

I started swinging at the pass side but it wouldnt come out. it was already mushroomed like hell so i went up to autozone and got the ball joint fork and a new ball joint...

i put the fork in and starting hitting it with the sledge and it still wouldnt come out, so i went back to autozone and got the balljoint "c-clamp". the c-clamp didnt work alone so i put pressure on it with the c-clamp and put the fork in and hit it with a 10 pound sledge. no deal...

after that i said the hell with it and i grabbed my air hammer with a ball joint chisel. after much frustration, i soaked it with WD-40, cranked up the engine hoist and got the motor out with the axle still in the trans.

i left for a few hours and came back with my friend to show him the ball joint from hell. i picked up the little hammer and barely hit it and it popped out. i almost beat his *** because i wanted something to beat up.

i didnt even want to mess with putting in a new ball joint, so i grinded down the mushroomed part, drilled new cotter pin holes, rethreaded it, took the boot and new castle nut from the new ball joint, and took everything back. $0 total.

Dude, next time don't hammer up on the threaded part, hammer back on the lower control arm where that little tab is, that's what we do at Honda--works everytime & no worries about the threads.

That is the best way to do it. That is the way all Honda shops should do it. Only way I've seen it done.
