Please help: Bad smell: the car, the clutch, or me?
Always about 3-5 minutes after I start my car and take off, I get a really nasty smell. Now the only way to describe the smell is that it smells like crap, ****, diarehha. The thing is, I smell the smell exactly when I really, really, feel the heat kick in. Since it's cold, I always have the heat on, and usually on setting #2. So when I feel the heat, I get the smell. Usually the amount of heat at this point is too much, I get too hot, so I lower the heat. After the smell fades aways, I never get it again until the next time I drive the car and that exact point where I once again feel the heat and get the smell.
Now I've been driving manual for about 4.5 months now, but I feel really confident about my driving-shifting. I don't see how I could be burning the clutch only once each time when beginning to drive every time I drive, it just doesn't make sense. And I don't get the smell anymore after the initial time.

if you get condensation in your heating system and dont use it for a while it can turn to mold. leave you heater and car on for about 15 minutes and it should clear it out.
Screw you guys, I'm... going... home.

I think either something died in your ventilation system, or you are driving by the same sewerage treatment plant every day. Commuters on I-40 in Raleigh NC will know what I mean!

No, there's definately no animals in there. Today was a beautiful warm day, so I drove without heat, and I think I did catch a hint of the smell.
I really don't think it could be my clutch. I'm pretty quick getting off of it, and I don't see how it could be burning so quickly.

Two things it could be:
1.-- heater core leaking..--
check your coolant level in the radiator
2. ---A/C condensation drain line clogged---
evaporator housing could be full of stagnant water..

I totally forgot to check up on this thread.
But here's an update after a month:
I still get the smell associated with heat, but it smells sometimes even without the heat. I do get the smell when I really push the car, as at WOT.
And yes, it does smell sort of like rotten egss, and also sulfur, definately sulfur.

Well if you don't have a zoo in the vents then a sulfur smell would/can come from the battery.make sure it isn't leaking down into the tray. take the battery out and check for any signs of corrosion?

Check out the air cleaner for the vents or maybe you have water getting into your car somewhere when it rains
