help my vtec is not working after i replace my distributor cap and ignition coil..
help guys i need help. i was driving in freeway doing around 75 mph when all of the sudden my car stalled and died. good thing i had enough time to exit the freeway. well i open the distributor cap and saw how the pin in the cap is all burned.. and saw the coil also burned up. well autozone was like 2 blocks away so i quickly ran over there and picked up a distrubutor cap and ignition coil for a 91 integra. installed that new parts and car started up with out problem. drove the car home and no vtec? does anyone know why? did i picked the wrong parts for my b16a? please guy i need help..
ill post pix as soon i eat lunch.

This is why you convert to obd-1
. I belive you bought the wrong distro, its normally the more expensive one. ( Cap and Rotor = US '90 Integra ) Don't get me wrong here I could be wrong on that. But if your buying a USDM part like a dizzy and stickin it in your JDM motor, there are tiny things you have to do. Save your pennie's get your self OBD-1 setup.

so you guys think i got the wrong ignition coil. cause before my car died. ive been using a us disbtributor cap but this time i replace the coil cause my coil was also messed up. so whats the deal? could it be that?
i am had the same problem. 65mph and it died but i used 90 teg cap rotor but the rotor got loose and car died again. i used a 97 del sol sohc vtec rotor it fit like a glove. but code four still flashes. i was told its best just to save up $$$ to buy a jdm dizzy thats what i am doing. as for vtec not kickin mine still does. anyone else add info
i was wondering if i get a ignition coil of a 95 vtec delsol i wonder is that will solve my problem

i have no clue to that i am just saving $$$ for a new jdm dizzy.
so i could have a good base to start from

I used a 90 Teg cap and rotor on my JDM B16 and it works just fine, no codes and vtec kicks in....
oh. yah. i also changed my ingnition coil. got one off 91 teg. fits like a charm. vtec kicks in now. its verry faint. and only in wot. feathering the gas all the way to to 5000rpm you cant hear vtec for some reason also my vtec hits at 4800 on wot. strange huh. before i change the ignition coil. vtec was hitting at 5200
there has to be something else going on. how could vtec not kick in just because you changed that out...
more info...i want to know whats going on too.

vtec kicks now.
on wot kicks in at 4800rpm. you can hear it.
but if you feather the gas. i dont hear it. is this normal.?
im gonna see if i can rig a vtec light so i know if vtec is still kicking even
though i feather the gas.

lol, I don't know if I am much help. There are normally 2 different dizzy's you can buy when your buying a dizzy for a b16a one is for a ( SOHC: I listed this because many cars have SOHC vtec's in them and the parts store doesn't sort them properly, and chance's are you will end up with the wrong part ), and the other for a DOHC, non-vtec and vtec. Chance's are your timing is messed up. Your ecu is probably kickin in to saftey mode and is cutting out on you. Vtec is programmed to run at 4800 on a JDM B16a PR3. Your o2's are probably not reading correctly or one isn't. I think you still have problems with your motor. I have been through all these problems before. Stop spending money on that little parts and just save your self the troubles and go OBD-1. I can 100% tell you that all your stupid little problems will just up and go away
. Its not cheap for most but, if you want to keep your car alive I suggest doing so, and getting some aftermark header.
Trying to make USDM parts work with or inside of JDM stuff is just a hassle, and can break things. It may cause your vtec not to work properly.... and not to mention a lot of other things. Puting a USDM part inside of your JDM Dizzy probably doesn't help your problems, even though it looks like it works! chance's are yiour engine isn't working right even though you think it is. But thats my 2 cents go obd-1 save your-self the headache's.

vtec kicks in only on WOT. if you feather the gas pedal past 5500rpms i personally don't hear vtec kick in until i mash the gas.
its normal.

nope.
VTEC activates on partial throttle also but at a later RPM.
