mr. fast and the furious,

you would need a program something like a hondata, then you would need a hook up to the ecu to the laptop, then you would need knowledge of tuning your car.
what kinda car do u have to neeed major tuning like this?
a dyno run is used to estimate your power, and to actually see your power curve, +/- power
u need it no matter

I have to agree with bommiE on this. What are you trying to accomplish? Being from a "computer" background I can understand the interest in wanting to connect into your car's brain and see what it's doing. Some great advise that I have heard, not only from friends who REALLY understand the workings of an ITR, but also in this forum, is that this is a great car, "why fix what isn't broke".

I'll still take a shot at helping you with your question though. (Anyone correct me if I'm wrong). A laptop really isn't going to do too much for "tuning" a car, although you can hook up to your OBD port located on the right side of your center console, and download some useful driving information, trouble-shoot problems, clear codes, and so forth. If your going for the "fast and furious" show look though then this IS NOT for you, as most of these programs are either DOS based or simple looking at best. I'm sure that someone has something that looks cool, but remember that mechanics use these, and the better it looks, the more it's going to cost. APPOX cost: 150-1000 dollars.

If you are trying to do ECU tuning then really you would need to change your ECU, because from what I understand, you cannot "reprogram" this device. To buy a new computer brain for your car is about $200 on top of any program that you buy to do this.

If you are trying to tune your VTEC electronically (so that it kicks in sooner) then a VTEC controller is what you want, although you don't need a computer that (and really it just throws in another element for problems). You can pick up a unit such as this for about 350-UP, but this "requires precise fuel enrichment and V-TEC engagement control" as perfectly stated at http://www.autocarparts.com. It also adds: "Honda V-TEC engines are already well tuned from the factory". Please consider this when considering a laptop for performance tuning, cause your gonna have to know your ****, and know it well.
