DTR and Toda Header
I am looking at possibly ditching my DC Sports JDM 4-1 header I am currently running for a new one (it's getting the crap kicked out of it on these roads!). I looked into the DTR header and even called and talked to Danny himself (awesome guy-very helpful
). However, I am wondering if one of his headers would really be suitable for me and if I should look into a Toda header. I was informed that some slight modifications need to be done to make it fit on my car (notching of the fan housing for the A/C, removal of the rear transmission mount, and the running of a custom test pipe.) As much as I would like to make as much power as possible, I really don't think I would want to do all of that. As far as I am aware, the Toda header can be run with no modification at all to any of those things (except having a 2.5" cat/test pipe) and still make some good gains. I would like to know if anyone is familiar with these two headers and how they compare to each other. Would sticking with a DTR header really be better than going with a Toda or would a Toda be better? Either way, the DC Sports JDM 4-1 has got to go ASAP before I break the frikkin' thing. Thanks for the help on this one.

you do need to take away a little from the fan shroud from the radiator....you do not need to remove the rear mount.....and yes a test pipe must be used.....
the dtr headers best performance makes it necessary to be that way...hope this anwers some questions

Awesome link. I tried finding something like that via search and nothing came up. Thanks though. It helped alot. The difference between the Toda and the DTR headers is a small gap (I think I saw about 4hp and about 1 ft/lb. of torque in the DTR header's favor). Since they are so close in performance and cost (about $850 or so for the mild steel DTR-little over a grand for a stainless; around $960 for the Toda) and the fact that such modification is required for the DTR, plus the fact that Texas does vehicle inspections (no sniffer, but they do check for a cat-should've stay registered in Florida where there aren't any
), I think I'll just go with the Toda header. I really don't have the time or resources as a full time college student and working full time to change the header and cat out every year just for a vehicle inspection (plus my **** is lazy
). Thanks again for the answers all. I really appreciate it.

Why don't you look into getting a Header-Tech header since you're tight with money? It's $650 for the stainless steel version. Much cheaper than the Toda/DTR header, and it performs just as well as you can see on that Header thread (Made more torque than both and just about the same HP). I recently picked up a Header-Tech header myself and the quality is VERY nice and it has a nice 3" inch collector too.
But it might take awhile for you to get one after ordering it. It is a custom made Race header afterall. But from everyone who've used it, I heard nothing but good things.

You could also try and pick up a used toda, if you dont mind used things. I picked up my toda about a month ago used for 600 bucks was a little dirty but I spend a couple hours cleaning it up before I put it on and it looks like new again

I heard about those but haven't really looked into them. How's the ground clearance on them? Any sort of extra modification necessary to use it (besides the addition of a larger flange for the 3" collector)? Do you happen to have a link to their website where I can check them out? Thanks for the tip.

I don't have a problem with used stuff: the Skunk2 Stage 2 cams I have were bought with only 1300 miles on them (the person I bought them off of is going with a custom turbo setup). I found one here on H-T actually and I am looking into it. It looks like its in good shape and if it pans out with the wife (and after I look into the Header-Tech header) , I might pick it up this week. Wish me luck.

Ground clearance isn't as great as a 4-2-1 header like the Toda or DTR, but I heard it has better ground clearance than the JDM DC 4-1 header. So it's not that bad.
There's no specific modification needed. The Header comes with a reducer pipe that goes from 3" inches to 2.5" inches. You can get a flange and connect it to your exhaust... or if you wanna run a cat, you can get a carsound cat that has a 3" inch inlet and 2.5" inch outlet.

That's their website, but you can't find anything useful there except for their phone number. You should give them and call. I heard they have great service. They'll answer any question you have.
Check out my header thread if you wanna get an idea of how it looks.
