REV LIMITER KICKING IN WHEN IT SHOULDN'T ON MY '94 ACCORD 5-SPEED...
Hey, I have a 1994 Honda Accord EX Coupe 5-Speed. For some odd reason, lately my rev limiter has been kicking in from 4,000 rpms -5,500 rpms. It will do it in neutral, 1st Gear, 2nd Gear, and 3rd Gear. I don't really know about 4th or 5th, but I am almost positive it does the same thing. I redline at 6,250 rpms. Can ANYONE tell me what the hell is going on? I can't race anyone like this because it'll kick in way too early, often times too early for vtec, and also, I can't really feel vtec kicking in. Is that supposed to happen on the accords? Are you not really going to feel it kick in on that model, or are you? PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE HELP ME!
good to hear that
......1/4mile is where real men run......like i said, its probably a problem w/ the fuel cutoff.......restart ur ECU and let it sit at idle to relearn the idle......this MIGHT fix it.......

RUN THE BUILT IN ECU CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIAGNOSTIC! Honda is smart.
Long Blink = 10
Short Blink = 1
Then it repeats. Will cycle through all codes, and then repeat.
e.g. LONG LONG Short Short Short. is 23.
There is a 2 slot jumper underneath the glove box. It's blue.
Unplug it!
Stick a little piece of wire into the slots (should form a little U shape). 16 gauge wire is fine. Then Turn Key to on position. GUESS WHAT!!!! MAGIC. Your Check Engine Light beside your Speedometer (in the dash/instrument cluster/tach area) will start blinking codes at you. Get a pen.... record the blinks, then go to honda-tech.com and search ECU CODE 16....or whatever. There's a long pause in between new codes. You could have more than one.

1. Is the car going into limp mode?
2. Do you have Vtec?
A. Vtec Needs Certain Oil Pressure, if it does not have it, it will reduce the redline until pressure is reached. My H22A does this until the oil is warm, and flowing. Winter... Takes about 3-5 mins of running the vehicle before ECU will allow VTEC engagement.... Longer on really cold days.
3. Fuel Problems? ECU senses a bad injector, it will limit rev, sometimes goes into limp mode.
4. I had an issue with Ignition Switch (Screwing with rev, screwed with power, instruments went hay wire).
5. Distributor Issue?
6. Cam Timing? Timing Belt?
need more symptoms..... to check. GL!

Bringing this thread back, I'm new to accords, mine is reving to 5200, it is not in limp mode, I cleaned the solenoid, reset the ecu, cleaned the air filter. I am going to clean the egr ports soon also, but the car seems like it pulls like it should, just hitting the limiter early. I read a while back that the 94-95 accords had problems with the gauge cluster messing up and rpms not reading correct. Can anyone confirm this or give me help to solve my problem. Thank you
Mine does the same thing. I noticed that, according to the tachometer, at 3000 I should be doing 90 or so. Ain't gonna happen. The tach is way too slow. I figure by about 1000 rpm, so that at 5200 I am really turning 6200. I have a different cluster from a JDM (which reads in kph instead of mph) and I plan to try that. Meanwhile I thought about temporarily hooking up an aftermarket tach and compare the two. I know the speedometer is correct because it matches my Garmin, and since I understand what is going on, I have just learned to deal with it.

Just checked my harmonic balancer and everything is ok, its not slipping. I am curious, would timing have anything to do with when the rev limiter engages? Like said before mine is engaging at 5200. Just a thought,, I appreciate the help
I am going to double check timing today, so I will keep everyone updated on what I find out. Any help from others would be much appreciated. Thank you
Im having the same problem with my 92 hatch, it has a d16z6. No CEL, fluids are good , checked timing. It was acting up between 4500-5000 now it moved up to about 6000?
My 94 accord was doing the same thing and limiting at 5250 rpm's. I just changed the whole gauge cluster because my speedometer and fuel gauge both messed up. And now my RPMs top out at 6250 where it says the redline is.
