Default Wrecked ITRs ? and any stories about them...

I know this is a touchy subject for some, but I want to know.
Has anyone ever heard or seen a wrecked ITR that was so bad the driver or passengers were killed?

This is in regards to safety. I do see alot of Wrecked Rs but almost everyone gets out alive with min injuries.

So would you concider the ITR a somewhat safe car?

Sorry if this is upsetting to some.

i wouldnt consider it safe compared to more recent cars like the Audi's, Subaru, etc. i have seen wrecked R's where no passenger injury was avoided.

i feel safe driving the R because it is relatively fast, handles well, and breaks good too

This is an interesting topic, i'm curious too. I guess you could be more general and apply the question to all integras because i'd assume they all perform the same. Unless the extra structural rigidity itrs have really makes a big difference.

On a side note, i think all hondas will have abs and side curtain airbags in 2006, even the lowest models. I saw this on some auto show on espn today, i think they said 2006.

Dont wanna be the one to bring it up, but since you asked, lets not forget about Jody (Eagle R). And I have heard of another "t-bone" accident at about 50mph where the driver was killed. Thats a pretty heavy impact though and theres not much thats going to protect you besides a side air bag, which we obviously do not have.

Yeah, I saw that too. Honda is dropping 30 million on a new safety testing facility.

A guy at an Acura dealership told me that one was wrecked about a year and a half ago and that the driver was killed. Apparently the guy was doing well over 100 and an autopsy revealed that he was heavily medicated. Whether there is any truth to this is questionable.

My buddy had over 5 wrecks in his R, and stayed safe through them all.

Also, my friend Mik wrecked his 97 over 4 years ago going over 100 and almost died, but lived. The wreck was almost just like Ed's (Zygspeed) wreck, but the front was also that mangled. So all in all id say it isnt a bad structure at all...

I learned a lot recently about this subject and I'd say a lot depends on LUCK!

I was personally VERY fortunate in that I hit backwards, right virtually smack in the middle of the car (centered on the A), and the car deformed absorbing the brunt of the impact. As I'd mentioned before it was a good thing I'd removed my rollbar ... which would have made a mess of my head, etc.

I think that active safety on behalf of the driver and systems such as ABS (and to a large but lesser degree things like airbags and electronic stability control in cars that have them), are more significant than body structure. For a stiffer body structure you'll usually need to add more weight to the vehicle which is then detrimental in a "sports car".

Be CAREFUL out there guys!
Keep your eyes open for the other guy and think about what your doing.

Overall, the R is a pretty safe vehcile if you keep the airbags and USDM front rebar.. From some of the pictures and stories i have seen, they hold up well, but impossible to fix.. Just find the body panels cant even stand up someone leaning against the fender

On another note, toyota gets my respect for most indestructable car. When i used to have a MKIII supra my bro(and passenger) slid into a wall going a 100 km/h with no seatbelts .. Lucky for him, they BOTH walked away with no injuries other than some bruised knees. The car(front end hit the wall) was a writeoff, but the engine had not been pushed back or anything. The bumper fenders etc were messed up, but almost no structural damage.. That car was a TANK

The next week i seen another local supra MKIII sideswiped lightpole at 80 km/h, took out the lightpole and down a 50ft enbankment to a shallow ravine. Both people walked away unhurt..

Lastly my friends MR2 was in in a head on/t-bone accident. He walked away no problems, and they even manged to fix his car(for the cost of $15000)...

Understood Ed. See you at expo.

I think that if you were proper restraints and keep the airbags that the car came with, its just as safe as a volvo

Are we noticing that so far, the majority of these wrecks have involved jackassery??? There's only so safe a car can be until the laws of physics take over. Crazy driving on public roads>safety engineering.

Generally I agree that goofing off often leads to these tragic results.
However in my own defense, I zigged when I should have zagged avoiding a number of deer.
Once physics took over I was just along for the ride.

A guy in quebec here got killed in his 1998 doin a stupid 120 mph jump (he had done it tons of times before) but lost control of his car that time. his dad was an ambulance driver and he found out his son was the patient on his call when he saw his car wrecked in the field. He was stuck in his momo seat next to the gas tank not dead yet but died in the ambulance shortly after. everything is on tape i have yet to find it on my pc.

No injuries here.... just a sore neck for a day or so. Spun it into a guardrail.

Mine and Ed's were very similar....

Totaled it. Over $15k to fix
