valve lash/adjustment questions
I posted on PO, but just to get more info, i'm posting here too... PO seems a bit slow...
Hey, according to my mechanic.. my car has very poor compression, i drive a 5g, and my JRSC isnt working correctly, but that's besides the point. I've been unable to see the car for myself (the shop is about 300 miles away, i have work and school) but from what i can hear over the phone, there is a LOT of valve tapping, its noisy enough to hear over the phone, over the other engine noises. So my compression comes out to be about 115 across all four.. which is VERY poor... i know
Just wanted to know if improperly adjusted valves will cause:
Oil burning (i'm getting blue smoke during idle)
Poor compression
Major lag
I dont know what the current valves are set to, but they are DEFINATELY out of spec, and i am having the problembs above... I need to get my hands on the car to do the adjustment, its a long story, but the shop does not want to do the adjustment themselves...
but the main question is... can poorly adjust valves cause oil burning? thanks guys!

Yes. bad valve adjustments can cause the above mention along with bad seals.
also what compression test did you use to get those numbers.
115 is definitely low, did you feel the loss before you dropped it off. the shop may be trying to take advantage of you.

hey, i didnt really feel much of a powerloss before hand, so it must be the valve lash, besides, the tapping is VERY loud, so it must be the culprit... i'll have to speak with the shop on monday... if this goes through correctly, my car will hopefully be back in my hands again
