Clutch Recomendations :-)
I was running a few searches last night, but nothing of significant value to help me decide. So here it is. Im rebuilding my tranny D16y8 on my 96 ex. While its out I plan on replacing the clutch.
Im looking for somethng I can daily drive, but still be abused. Future plans may include a turbo kit and or nitrous. So id like to be prepared, Im looking at ACT because of availability and reputation.
Im certain I want to get the Streetlight XACT flywheel but not sue which clutch to pair it up with.
Should I go all out for the Xtreme clutch or Heavy Duty clutch?
Lastly 6 Puck Race Disc or would the 4 or even the Organic Street Disc suit me better?
Thanks in advance children.

i have streetlite flywheel and hdss clutch. i havent run forced induction on it yet, but so far i love it. it grabs hard if u drop it , but is very nice for daily drivign. the lightend flywheel made a nice difference too. if u were really gonna do a 250whp+ forced induction setup, look towards extreme pp and ss disk, if something milder, get the setup i have

**** Clutch Specialities. The gave me a bunk pressure plate that engages the clutch when the pedal is down.
Anyway, I'm running a 6 puck sprung with a 8.8lb FW. I heard the 4 pucks are a bitch for daily driving.

ACT is good for one thing - destroying tranny bearings

thanks, good info to consider. I doubt ill boost to 250. The turbo kits good for 175, naws is good for 75, probably just under 200 whp when all is said and done.
by SS are you refering to the Stock Streetdisc? I thought that was comparable to stock which would be bad.

no its the super street organic disk. the code for the "stock" disk is OO.

if you want streetability get the street/strip setup w/ the organic disc... the 4/6 pucks would be way too much for you at this stage and would just be a pain in the *** to drive with. I've got the Heavy Duty pressure plate and the street/strip disc and am very happy. No problems in about a year and a half and still runs strong!

I've never heard this before, did something happen to yours?

*sigh* where'd you hear that? have you ran an act clutch on your car and had it eat your bearings? if so, the clutch probably wasn't the main reason, but rather driving style (causing chatter), and age of the bearings. enlighten me, i'm curious.
also i'm running act hdss/prolite flywheel and holy hell is it fun to drive. i recommend it. i've seen several threads on exedy clutches exploding, so i'd avoid them at all cost. search around, this has been discussed weekly.
look up clutch 101 created by rocket. he recommends action clutches over act, which is what i will be going with next. the only bad thing about act is the chatter, but that's prevented by you knowing how to drive, other than that their great clutches. rocket doesn't really mention exedy at all ... i wonder why
