do you feel the vtec kick in third gear? on my car its more of an audible change in engine tone. was wondering if this is normal
yeah it does pull, very hard actually....just compare the time it take to get from 4-6k rpms compared to 6-8k rpms..how many miles are on your car???whens the last time you had a tune up
If you feel Vtec "kick" in 3rd gear then it is a sign that your car isn't tuned as optimally as it should be.
Vtec transition should be seamless - with no "feeling"
An audible noise is normal.

People get thrown off by the extra noise when you hit the VTEC range, so that they think that there is extra acceleration above the VTEC crossover point. There isn't; not in a stock ITR, anyway. If you look at the dyno plot for a stock ITR, you will see that the torque curve is quite flat; there is no huge jump in torque (or acceleration) above the VTEC crossover point. In fact, that's the whole purpose of VTEC - to maintain the same torque at higher and higher revs, and prevent it from dropping off. That's where the ITR and other VTEC cars get great acceleration despite relatively meager torque numbers - by getting the torque at higher revs, where non-VTEC cars would be forced to upshift and lose acceleration due to higher gearing. As explained here.
P.S.

you'll feel less accelaration the faster you go.. so everything will not sound as dramatic as in lower gears.. as log as you hear the vtec change and your oil is up to level. you should be fine.

lol...
"Vtec transition should be seamless - with no "feeling""
sounds like somebody doesn't have an ITR
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but my 3rd gear vtak is like WHOA!

SFDM is kinda like a county inside quezon city. don't get me wrong, third gear does pull hard, i just don't feel the same kick i get when i hit vtec in 1 and 2nd gear. i'll try getting a tune up, perfect opportunity to put it my new iridiums

I have b18c w 11:1 cr and vtec engagement is definately felt through out all the gears, even 5th. If you can't feel it at around 6k rpm then you should look into getting a tune up.
check the color/condition of the spark plugs. How many miles do you have, when was the last time you've had a valve adjustment done. Check the oil level, make sure theres enough oil in the motor.
lets see... when i rev from mid rpm in third to redline, it seems to feel slow, but i hear the vtec kick at 5800 or so (6k on tach), and i feel the pull. when i redline 1st and 2nd and then shift into third, it feels like its pulling harder in 3rd. basically its probably mental, 1st gear crossover is hard, 2nd a little less, and so on, so u should just redline all ur gears and u will be fine !!
QUESTION- i cant post, dont know why it just doesnt work, but if u guys could throw a few comments my way- is it real BAD to redline the R daily, multiple gears, multiple times? should i lay off the revs a little bit or is the motor/tranny really tough enough to withstand the high rpm all the time? thanks

so the above is what a tune up should include? any more?
when i was following my friends' cars, they have water coming out from the tail pipe, many people say it occured because the timing is right and the motor is heathy. so if my car doesn't have water coming out when i rev, the motor is not good?

water? water out tailpipe maybe due to condensation.. your car doesn't quite run on water.. for maintanance tips check faq section..

no... the car is warm... but it has water coming out from the muffler, not much but it is visible
i have seen so many cars did that but just don't know why it happens

Not bad for the engine. But it will use more gasoline, which could be bad for your wallet if you do it all the time.
