Default Running open header, does it help or not

Just wanted your suggestion on running open header. Is it better than running the full exhaust sytem or not.

Got a B16B CTR with Toda Spec A's, Mugen thin head gasket, Skunk2 intake manifold, Jun Hyper exhaust, CAI, ignition, etc.. Heard that running open header helps your times. What do you think?

Is it better to run open header on a 4-1 or 4-2-1 header design. I would assume that running open header you tend to lose torque automatically, so running a 4-1 would hurt it even more. So running a 4-2-1 would not be as bad. Plus it seems that you get through your rpm's quicker running open header.

Let me know your thoughts and advice

That's something i've pondering alot myself. Alot of us run open header at the track and seem to do pretty decent. Has anyone dyno'd there car open header vs. having a good exhuast system?

on my stock Si I ran open stock exhaust manifold at one track day... I ran three passes with full exhaust (test pipe no cat and A'PEXi N1) and three passes with the test pipe pulled off... I ran 15.2 with exhaust and 15.0 without... could be a mental mod or whatever but I was convinced...oh and yea, i felt like i LOST bottom end (felt is the key word, yea it could be amental thing)

the best thing to do would be to run header to a "race pipe" a stright 12 to 15 inch pipe.

research about how air flow out of motor and what not it will shed some light onto why to use that.

i still thinking about this ...im not sure if i want to run open header or get a custom exhaust ...if i was to run open header i think i mite go for the DTR side exit header ...but i confused about which header i want to run in the 1st place SMSP or DTR so this question just makes it harder lol

my exhaust system is a JDM 4-1 mugen twin loop, test pipe and unresonated piping.

When removed I trapped 98mph/99mph, with the exhaust ON i got consistent 96mph runs today. I can't compare ET's because i was trying way too many forms of launches to make it fair

Thanks for you inputs, I guess I will just have to try and see how it does.

Reading all the other threads about headers and stuff, I noticed that most of the SMSP, DTR, HYTECH, headers looks similar to a 4-2-1 design. So going to try running my Toda header.
