ok I know it's about every 2 years that you need to get smog done in Ca., but can you have it done before that and be alright for the next to years?? Reason im asking is because I only have a few months left before i need to re-register/smog my car, and I am getting a motor swap next week.
My car is a 98 acura CL and I will be getting a 94 JDM H22 so I know it won't pass smog. I want to go get my car smogged today or tomorrow before I get the new motor in, but will that count for when the DVM sends me a notice in a few months?? Thanks

 

When you smog a car in Ca. the info is automatically sent to the DMV by computer. I see no reason why you would have to wait to get the notice, if you know it's coming up, I'd go do it. Just after you do call the DMV and see if everything is good. I am sure this is perfectly fine.

edit: You could always just call the DMV to be sure.

Smogs are only valid for 3 months in CA. So make sure its not more than 3 months away before you modify it or you'll have a problem.
