Default RSX S Transmission Shifts Getting A Little "Notchy"?

I have 55K miles on my S. When I first got it, I noticed the 1st to 2nd shifts was a little "notchy" (not smooth like most Honda trannys). And sometimes a little crunchy. When Automobile magazine did a long term test of the S they noticed the same thing.

This feeling went away - until recently. I've started to notice a slight "notch?" as I shift from 1st to 2nd again.

Anyone else experiencing this? If the weather warms this weekend, I'll change the tranny fluid.

i think everyone on this board with the Type S is experiencing some kind of notchiness. there are tons of threads about it. search "2nd Gear" and tons of RSX topics will pop up

Well to help you out and just tell you what it is, have your dealership check out your synchros. These tend to mess up after a while causing the tranny to feel notch. The main problem with the tranny is that the synchros from 1-2 gear tend to mess up and effects the rest of the gears.

Have it checked out now bro and don't wait like I did. In the end I messed up 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and reverse gear synchros just for letting the little "notchy" feeling go on.

I did the search under "Transmission" and got nothing. Searching for "2nd gear" gave me lots of results. Good info. I'll print off the TSB and go to my Acura dealer with it.

Question: My car is out of warranty. Does this have an impact on servicing the TSB for free? Nashua NH Acura has been good to me so far.

Well since you are not covered by warrenty you will not be covered for free. Your basic warranty covers you to 50k miles where as the acura care warranty ( which I do not recommend) would cover you to 100k. But the chances of acura care covering you would almost be zero if you so much as had aftermarket tires. They suck and do not ever get them.

If you go to your dealership and act real nice to them and explain the situation and let them know about the TSB you found they might help you out.

This is the most asinine **** that I have read all day. Do you honeslty believe in your mind (be it as small as it may appear right now) that they would void your warranty for some god damn tires? Maybe if you show up to the dealer with skinnies and drag radials All tires are aftermarket you retard. Honda doesnt make tires.

You are a ****.

Change your tranny fluid to redline MTL, it will make a world of a difference.

Ok dumb ****, I was going to trying and settle this little comment of yours in a proper way but why should I show respect to a noob with no common sense.

I actually experienced the statement I made to the thread. I had Acura Care warranty for my car, and when I had 58k miles on my odometer my syncros were completely messed up. An Acura Care technichian came to look at my car and canceled my warranty for these reasons:

1. Suspension modified ( Tein Flex)
2. Exhaust ( hayame)
3. Modified engine bay ( Injen SRI)
4. Aftermarket tires ( Hankook Ventus)
5. Aftermarket rims ( JDM Honda type R rims)

He said these components added stress to my tranny and thats how the syncros messed up.

So next time you try and make a comment to make yourself look big, think twice before you quote something out of your *** that you have no experience with.
So like **** on the bottom of my shoe, I scrap you off on the curb and let you wallow in your own stupidity.
Have a nice day.

I second that.

I changed to RedLine MTL at 20K and it made a world of difference....

In this situation since I was past the 50,000 mile mark my basic warranty with Bell Acura was gone. When I first purchased the car I had also purchased the extended warranty through Acura Care which is not part of Bell Acura but rather a subsidary(sp?) of Acura. In other words Bell Acura had to call Acura Care and have a tech come out and inspect my car to approve the warranty. I am friends with everyone at the dealership and ever tech there at bell acura loved my car, even the owner of bell acura was a nice person to me from the start. When I brought my car to them they were getting ready to work on my car and were sure that acura care would approve the work ( Acura Care would have to pay Bell Acura since they were now taking care of my warranty.).

Well the Acura Care Tech came out and talked to the Bell Acura techs and he was explained that the problem was due to the syncros and that there was a TSB regarding it. The Acura Care tech looked at my car and said that my warranty was being canceled due to the items listed above, and yes he even said that the aftermarket tires was one reason that my warranty was canceled. He said that the tires were of a "softer" compound and that added stress to the tranny.
He was an ******* to ever tech at bell acura before he left. In the end I was looking at over 4k worth of damages to the tranny to have a new one plus installed. In the end Bell Acura went above the basic customer satisfaction and took it upon themselves to cover all the damages. In other words bell acura paid for everything out of thier own pockets.
