somebody help a beginner
Im just starting to get into cars. I have 91 civic Si with a d16a6 motor. the problem is for some resaon i cant hit throttle fast enough on the car because my rpm drops and only comes back when i let go the gas. This problem goes away though evrytime I reset the ECU, but comes back after awhile. So if anyone out there has experienced this problem before can you please tell me what's wrong with my car then.

Hey man, welcome to honda-tech.. hope you have thick skin!
If reseting your ECU is correcting the problem - then you must bet getting a code (engine light) no?? if so, then pull down your passenger side carpet where you feet go and count the number of blinks you see on the ECU (between the long pauses)...

well yeah resetting the ecu is one to fix it but the thing is its a reocurring problem Ive resetted the ecu about 3 times already. the problem would go away but it would come back a couple of days later.
nice at least people are trying to help.
ok here we go. Let's say Im entering the freeway i try to press the gas hella hard, the rpm drops from 3000 to below 1000 rpm therefore losing power. But the second i ease off the pedal the rpm goes back to normal. I can get to high rpms but I need get there slow like I cant just hit throttle and go. I have to like control the pressure im appyling to the pedal because if I step too on the pedal too fast I lose power and it really sucks

sounds to me like feul management could be putting too much gas into the engine causing it to bogg and by letting off the gas and going up slowly the engine is able to handle it??? don't go on what i'm saying thats just what it sounds like to me.

I have to concur. It's probably pushing too much therefore not "giving enough"

when is the last time you did a tune up?
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter.
Sounds to me like you're running rich OR your spark isnt up to snuff and not burning up all the extra fuel when you floor it.

Does it really fall on its face when you hit the throtle? Hesitate and stumble? An easy thing to check is your valve timing. Line up your crank at TDC and make sure your cam gear is ligned up with your head (theres marks on the gear) My dx jumped a tooth and I had to baby the throttle to get it to go. Granted if it comes and goes this probably isnt it but its a simple and free thing to check.
this happened to me on my 91 accord. what you need to do is change the spark plugs. chances are, they will be black etc. it would be a good idea to change the distributer cap and rotor as well. hope it helps
I would think if hes pushing that much fuel his plugs would have fouled by now. can you tell us what color the spark plugs are and what they smell like.
