DIY Black Taillight Housings
Hey guys, just got a spare pair of taillights in the mail today so I decided to have fun. At first I just wanted to take the amber out, but decided it might look cool if I painted the inside of taillight. I baked it at 300 degrees for 5 minutes to loosen up the glue. Anyways, here are some pics:

I'll be taking a picture soon.. It won't be completely dark for another hour or so.
Yeah, I got in a minor accident a while back and the rear bumper sorta got torn. I bought a new one but just haven't gotten around to get a shop to paint it.

It took me about half an hour for one taillight, and that includes the baking, peeling the lens off the assembly, painting it, and waiting for it to dry.
I haven't glued it up yet, although I did clean off all the old glue, and I plan to use silicon glue when I do put it back together.

A few edges started cracking, then a tiny piece broke off, so I just figured what the hell, I'll break it up and see what's inside. I bought this pair of lights off of ebay for $21 shipped, because I did not want to mess up my tails that are on right now. As long as you bake it long enough, and just pry slowly and carefully at it, it shouldn't break.
I still have the stock lights on my car, but I'll be back in a few minutes with a picture of the modified left and stock right on my car.

Yeah, I guess my camera doesnt work too well at night, but you can still tell that there is less light coming from the modified taillight (driver's side). The passenger side light is still the stock one.

looks good! itried doing that and failed also... cracked one of the lights in half haha!

I would think all red would look pretty sweet, kinda like an audi taillight but its a matter of getting the red to match. You could probably buy clears and actually put them to good use, paint it red to your liking. Could be a worthy mod

I know the 90-93 were all solid and painted amber er whatever factory color is. 94-97 had a little piece that went over the bulb area for the turn signal. 98-00 had solid i believe and 00-02 had inserts. The 03-04 are just bad ***

I just wanna know why the hell this thread was moved to Sponsor's marketplace. First of all, I ain't selling ****. I could understand it being moved to Appearance & Cosmetic... but WTF! Mods, DIY means Do It Yourself, not Buy It Here.

its one thing to paint the headlight housing leaving the reflector alone so you still have the same light output. your pics clearly show how you limit light by painting the reflector. I hope you don't get into an accident because of your mod. I also hope you did this to your old lights and not the new ones.
