Default 1998 4CYL Transmission problems

I have a 1998 Accord EX 4cyl.

I'm having a problem with my transmission where it slips. The problem occurs when I am in first and it shifts to second. The RPMs will jump a bit and then second gear will engage. Same happens on the transition to third from second. Doesn't happen on third to fourth though.

Can anyone tell me whats happening here?

Does anyone know if my accord has had its Transmission warranty increased?

Thanks.

how many miles do you have? At what mileage have you changed the automatic transmission fluid?

I had just gotten my fluid changed this past sunday.

Previous to that, I had it around 40-45k...

about 98,000 miles on it now.

you should be changing your fluid every 25-30k miles. Call up honda for a possible recall on your car.

Thanks for the replies.

Do you have any idea what my problem might be?

Any money says that its your shift linkage cable... it might have came loose or something. I had the exact same prob. and now b/c the revs got so high before the car would shift, my tranny burns oil pretty damn badly .... but it doesn't shift like that anymore after i got the cable adjusted

How much did it cost you to get the cable adjusted?

I'm taking it into AAMCO tomorrow to see if they can figure out the problem.

Do not take you car to aamco. Take it to a dealer. With you going that long between transmission fluid changes you may more then likely ahve burned the clutch plates. And no the re-call only pertains to the 2000-2001 auto's. And its not a re-call, its a warranty extention till 100,000 mi's or 7yrs. witch every comes first.

So here is an update.

The AAMCO guy told me that it could be my solenoids that need replacing or the tranny needs rebuilding.

I took it to Honda after, and they told me to try a tranny flush. They said they would drain the fluid, refill and then take it out for a drive and then bring it back and drain it again, and refill and repeat for three times. They said that that was the usual first step in transmission problems. Would doing this hurt the transmission any further?

Another question would be, Could it be that I need a tune-up? I was told I have worn plugs and worn wires. Could this cause slippage?

Thanks!
