Default Oil in distributer.

I got a H22a OBDI.

A few days ago, I started to notice that I slowly lost some oil. Circa a quart per 250 miles. I couldn't see any smoke coming from the exhaust, so the leak had to be somewhere else. I looked under the car, but I couldn't find anything. However, I noticed that there were some oil patches on the tranny. It had me wondering a few days, until now when I saw that the oil was coming from the distributer. Once I removed the cap about 3 ounces poured out. Has this happened to anyone else, and how did you solve this problem. I'm assuming that a ring, or a seal has to be replaced, but which one?

I did a search and I got two responses. On https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=491984 there is a diagram, that might be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

#8 #6 look like it might be the problem. Check to see if your rubber cap next to the distributor is leaking too. That is know to bust also...did for me.

Thanks for the reply. Well what do you mean by the rubber cap?

How much do you think it will cost to have either, or both, of #6 and #8 replaced?

Thanks

the o-ring shouldcost very little, replacement is abotu 5 minutes with a 12mm socket, short extension and ratchet.

The rubber cap im talking about is located at the left end side of the intake cam if you were to stand infront of your engine. Mine was leaking oil and ive heard of many others having this problem. I have noticed some oil stains near the distributor also, im curious about your dicoveries so i think im gonna check my distributor as well.

Oh yeah, the rubber cap costs like $2, and to replace it you need to take of the valve cover and intake camshaft plate and holder along with some liquid gasket. Easy to change.

hehe sounds easy alright, but I feel uncomfortable doing anything inside the engine. So, I will start by checking the distributer.

BTW, does anyone know how to get to the o-ring? I got an internal coil.

Hey guys. I posted the same topic in the tech forum, and the replies are different.
https://honda-tech.com/zeropost?cmd=tshow&id=780602

They tell me that I need to replace the distributor.

Please let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

I can't really talk about your particular seal problem here, but a good place to look for seals and orings are hydraulic shops... They have thousands, include metric ID with imperial OD....

Bearings, well a good bearing shop will get the bearing you need.... I get my beraings from a shop like that. I was even able to find engine beraings for very early HD shovelhead and knucklehead motorcycles...

most often it is the o-ring.
if you want to go and spend a lot get a new distributor, but chances are its an o-ring that costs next to nothing and is easy to replace. and if you are nto comforatble doing it yourself have a mechanic take a look.

Thanks a lot. Good info. As far as the o-ring is it the same size in a US as in a JDM?

Thanks

For those with similar problems. The o-ring and rotor is identical in JDM and USDM H22, however, the cap is different.

Also, the o-ring is not the problem. I'm looking for a new distributor. Anyone?
