OT - Anybody ever bend the truth to get insurance cheaper?
Well it seems my luck has run out. State Fram has finally droped my ***. After 9 years with them they said I am not longer able to renew because I've had 3 accidents (2 my fault) over the past 3 years. So here is the deal, I ran a car fax and none of the accidents came up thanks to getting out of any tickets I got from the accidents. Now if i don't tell the insurance company I have any accidents, I can get full coverage for a nice rate of $950 for 6 month. If I do tell them, they kick is up to $1750 for 6 month.
My question is, what happens if I tell them I have no accidents and get a policy then they find out I do? Do I loose any money? I don't care if they drop me, I just don't want to loose any money paid (around $500 to start policy).
Thanks for the help guys
EDIT: Yeah 6 months, no a month.

I think it depends on the policy.
But I believe they can either drop you for lying and/or bring you to court for insurance fraud.
Or they may decide to raise your premium PLUS have you pay for the premium of what it SHOULD have been during the time you were covered.

I hope you mean per six months... and not per month.
I'm honestly not sure about the insurance. Are they listed on your driving record? Or are they completely off your record?

I was thinking the same thing. if not, then GOD DAMN its not even worth driving lol.
If you go with a new company, arent they gonna wonder what insurance u came from and run a backround check? wont they see that u have an accident history with the other company even though nothing shows on carfax or the dmv?

yeah, really... you don't pay that much per month, do you?
it also helps if you insure your car w/ your home.

Is this some kind of sick joke? I pay $450 a month and I have never heard of anyone in this area having higher insurence then me.
This was from 2 accidents. One was an old ladys fault and one was a deer's fault
. I also got 16 points in like 2 years from when i was 16-18. Now I only have 5 left I think. It will soon be 0 here in about a month when I turn 21. Hopefully my insurance will go down.
Thing was though my insurence never went up ONCE after all those tickets. It was the accidents that did it. When I clamied them they dropped me because both happened with in one year of each other.
Now when I went to the new company plus I am on my own now, I was on parents before I moved out. They only did a backround check and found my driving history, BUT they checked my previous insurence history with another company. So just because CARFAX doesn't say **** doesn't mean they won't do a little detective work. They quoted me 3 soemthing, then after checking with my prior insurence agent, it got bumped up to $450.
Good luck man. It sucks. I just paid my car off and will be dropping down to liability very soon. I think they quoted me like $285 a month or smething like that. We'll see.

you don't have to disclose that information to the new insurance company.. if they find it doing their background research then they will take it into account..
and the DMV will most likely not have a record of accidents.. I've spoken lengthily about how it all works with my agent and my mom(Sr. Insurance Underwriter). They will just know about any tickets you were found guilty on.
I thought I might get cancelled and had considered lowering my insurance by listing my home address as my parents(rural IL) as opposed to my own(MD). I was up front with the agent in IL about my record and she actually told me not to worry about it, that they wouldn't list it and that they would never get the info on tickets or accidents because MD and IL don't share that information..
So.. my advice is not to tell them about your claims history. You might as well tell them about tickets that you were found guilty on though, since they will definitely find that out if you're staying within the same state..

Exactly what I wanted to hear. Kewl, thanks alot. As for tickets, all of them have been dismised. I have a clean driving record.

i guess there's pro-cons. almost every insurance company will do background research before letting anyone on any policy (life, health, car, whatever).
if they ask you if you have been in any accidents (regardless if your fault or not) and you say no... then they find out you have.. you will probably be denied with that company (maybe red-flagged too).
they usually ask what was your previous insurer and will definitely ask that insurer the same question. especially if your previous insurer dropped you... then they will know something is up...
insurance companies dont give a damn about protecing people... they just care about making money --- so i'm sure they will want to do as much research as they can so they dont lose money by insuring the "wrong" people.
good luck bro...
but if they are dumb and don't do their research... you win!
i've kinda been thru this before... and the new insurance company always found out. i had to move back under my parents policy plan for a few years before it cleared up..and now it's cheap on my own again!

they will either back charge you, or drop you. Or increase your premium under your nose because it will be flexible anyway.
Carfax or no carfax it will eventually get on your report.
im not even insured to drive my own car some how they print my name on my statement and my dads name cops dont question ****. but if I crash my own car im fucked and gotta tell the insurance his *** was drivin even though someones going to end up taking down my license and im fucked... the cars paid so no biggie.
im not going to change the coverage at all... full coverage is full coverage!
if I was to be covered on my own car it would cost me 980 a month because I have a speed contest ticket on there from 2000 which will remain on my record until 07

If the police showed up, the accident is on your driving record. It will definitely show up when they run your license number.
Volunteer the info or not, it doesn't matter.
BTW, they'll also find out about all the claims made with your current insurance company. Insurance companies know more about your driving record than you do.

I know that in California they ask for an Insurance Declaration page when you change companies, which essentially is a loss statement from your previous insurance carrier that shows all of your claims.
Austin - who just had a lot of points drop off of his record

Well since i sell insurance let me offer you this...Any claim or accident you have had in the last 5 years they will find by running whats called a clue report...some insurance companies can run them right away like ours and some take up to a week...If you dont disclose the information when you get a new policy ;they will just add the accident and your premium will increase accordingly to your activity when they find out and they will...and a car fax has nothing to do with a clue report which is what they will run along with a dmv report for any driving violations within the last 3 years...Also I was buying a vehicle and I ran a clue report under the VIN# and it showed some claims payed out to have some work done on the vehicle...I ran a car fax and it said it was clean...go figure...
Edit and they run the clue report on the vin # of your vehicle and DL# ;so any claims or accidents that happened in or to your vehicle will show up...

Well i've got till April 23rd before I'm droped so I'm going to look into getting a beater truck and use that as my primary car and put the R as a recreational car only. Hopefully this will lower me down also.
Good luck...
In my case, I didn't mention an accident and a ticket and they gave me a good rate.... About 3 weeks after I received the cards, I got a letter mentioning the $350 increase..
I do have to say that ERIE never investigated my 3 suspensions and 2 speeding tickets I had before signing on with them.... The same month ERIE accepted me as a perfect driving with a clean record, GEICO told me that there is no way in hell they will ever insure me.... (This happened around 1997)
Give ERIE a call if you have them in your state

Insurance company thinks my car is a weekend car......4000miles a year.
They always send courtesy letters asking if i would graciously let them know how many miles on the R. Been tossing those out for a while.
Louie~ who will never tell.

it'll help a ton! if you hurry up and get married and have a kid before 4/23, the rate might drop even more. haha.

in my opinion, i wouldnt lie about it. if they do find out for some reason and find out that you lied about it, who knows what they will try to do to you.
i think that you cant go wrong when you are honest. It is true that you will save money, but i think you can figure something else out then getting flag.

accident records aren't stored in carfax. They can run your drivers license to check for at-fault accidents, or simply contact the previous insurer. If they don't find the accidents KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT... And enjoy your cheaper premiums. Unfortunately, they probably will find the records, so this is a moot point.
(I'm sorry, I don't have any sympathy for the thieving, money grubbing insurance companies that charge you tons of $$$ for premiums, then try to rip you off when you attempt to put in a claim
)
oh, and this:
"If the police showed up, the accident is on your driving record."
is bullshit - you only get an accident put on your record if it is AT FAULT...
