b18 block with a b16, b18c,b17, etc dohc vtec head to give a 1.8L dohc vtec motor, can be great can be terrible, all on who builds it.

Its a B18A (90-93 integra ls) or B18B (94 and up intergra ls). With a dohc vtec head from a b16a, b17a, b18c. The ls block has the longest stroke of any of the b-series motors and offers good torque because of that. The high flowing head with vtec gives it good horsepower, especially on the top end.

Generally speaking, one would take the block from a LS, RS integra (b18a/b) and make it with a DOHC vtec head (b16, b18c, b18c5, or b17). Given the correct build and tuning, this can make for a potent motor. There are mixed reviews about the reliability, but i suggest you use the search button and generate your own opinions, as there have been hundreds upon hundreds of posts about the motor

Awesome guyz thank for the advice. But I didnt know you could swap a B16 head on a B18 Block. I thought the B18 was a 1.8L and the B16 1.6L, so how does this work. And when you guyz say B16A head is it the first gen one?

LS/VTEC was invented by integra guys who wanted a "mini-me".

you're better off getting a B18C. Unless you build the bottom end of the LS, you wont have the compression nor the rev-ability of a factory DOHC VTEC. for the price of a built bottom end, you could have a B18C.

If this is all true then why wouldnt people just do this, instead of doing a LS??? I dont understand that. If there is no compression how do you raise it?

because they want to be trendy. Im sure you could have some small gain with the ever so slightly longer stoke of the b18a/b engine over the b18c, but not much, and thats assuming you have identical compression which means building your LS bottom end.

bottom line: LS/VTEC is for people who cant afford a B18C

Well thats me then, haha.

No I will just stick with my B16, that is good enough for me.
But this LS/VTEC is interesting though. SO as for the bottom end by builing it what would you do if you were going to make a LS?
