Calling all DOHC ZC Owners
My car is in the shop getting the motor put in right now.
I have ZC motor with the ZC ecu and ZC 5spd tranny
I just had some questions about this motor.
I plan on staying NA
Where does the powerband start and end at on stock cams?
What was the best mod u added to your ZC,and noticed butt dynoed and on the dyno
What cars can u guys beat or keep upo with?
What should my 1/4 times look like?
BTW i have a 90 civic STD the back is gutted and it has no AC stuff in it
Is the DH racing ZC to LS line bore head worth buying? WHo has it?
Should i beable to crush all other D series vtec's and nonvtec's stock.
Anything i should known or do please tell me. Thanks

i've been to almost everysite goggle has gave me
i need more detailed info and personal experiance about this motor than just the parts list that just about every ZC site has stolen from eachother and what this motor fits into.
That was helpful when i was a nubie.
not any more

Here are A's to your q's
Where does the powerband start and end at on stock cams? starts at about 4000 and ends at 6900-7000.
What was the best mod u added to your ZC,and noticed butt dynoed and on the dyno? Added a jdm b16a down pipe portmatched to the zc upper manifold, gave good top end increase. Short ram intake and free flowing muffler worked well also.
What cars can u guys beat or keep upo with? Depends on setup, stock integras (non vtec) with I/H/E and civics. Cavaliers (quad 4) and sunbirds (turbo or 3.1 5spd) ...the list goes on.
What should my 1/4 times look like? Mid to high 15's. I have my zc in a 90 civic si.
Ohh and the ls/zc head machining is a waste of $$$. Tune your zc with exospeed camshafts and valvetrain and you'll be geared. Remember though, the faster you want to be the more $$$ it is going to cost. Look at what you want to do with the car and go from there.
Hopefully this helps you.

Get some experience behind the wheel of the car and find some of this stuff out. You can't just expect to know a motor from what people tell you.
As for the powerband, look at some ZC dynographs. My old one from when I first had my ZC showed my power holding really level clear out to redline.
I think the best mod for the motor is going to be cams if you're not going to go turbo. Personally I would say go turbo.
You can beat some similar cars. You're not going to be beating turbo'd 4 cylinders, or sporty cars that are V8 powered for the most part.
I'm going to go a little lower on the 1/4 mile times and say low 15s. I ran pretty much conisitent 15.3s at one track and 15.5s at another. This was in a 91 Si Civic. I had the Si trans so higher 15s might be more accurate with the ZC trans.
I used to race a friend of mine with a 92 Si hatch, I/H/E, flywheel, etc, and I was easily faster than that car with my ZC basically stock in an Si. I've since driven other ZCs and hey haven't felt as fast as mind did, so I may have just been lucky, but you should be able to beat just about any stock D series motored car since I think that 1992-95 Civics were the quickest D series cars in this country usually running high 15s.
NOTE: All times are general/average/common and no one cares if so and so's boyz neighbors uncle had a bone stock D15 that ran 11s in a CRX uphill with bricks in the back.. that isn't the point. Someone always has to post something like that!

Get exospeed cams, world of difference. You can spank most stock v6 stangs n such, any stock D series civic, a good bit of stuff. Get those cams, i/h/e and youll be hangin with the stock v8 boys. You'll need more compression or turbo to hang with the modded v8 crowd though.

My zc crx hf runs a 15.2 with I/H/E. I am dead even with my friends gsr with I,H/E/Pulleys and short shifter(But he has a 10'' rocksford sub in). I can usually beat a lightly modded 5th gen prelude but never raced a 4th gen. I also beat a civic si, gts celica, and im not sure but i think i can beat a 94 gt 5.0 auto.(Beat someone who beat one) Just experiement, but be careful.
