I did a search on this subject and knowone seemed to have a to the point answer. Aside from the obvious extra hp and weight advantage and stiff handling (disadvan. 2 some) what is some of the overall damage i can do to my rack? From what i've heard the lack of lubrication in the rack over time can cause some major damage. Can anyone second this or have any specifics about damage without p/s and pump.

 

Never seen any problems, but of course I've never ran one for any extended period of time. However, I would recommend getting a manual rack, as it will make the car easier to steer since it has a different ratio.

 

Just do like Realtime does on their ITRs. The power steering rack is kept full of fluid and both ends of the circuit go to a catch can. This way the rack stays lubed and you dont have to push fluid through a pump thats not moving. It works good, i did it on my car.

 

yeah, from what i hear there is a right way and a wrong way.

Wrong way: remove the power steering belt and drain the fluid, then drive.

Right way: either remove only the ps belt. or remove the pump as well but run some extra hoses to keep the rack lubricated.
