Default Can you help me figure out if it is my clutch, tranny, syncros, or master cylinder that is bad???

Ok this is what I know. My clutch is a hondaclutch stage 2, it is less than a year old. My set up is pretty long but pretty much drag III and some other stuff boosting 8 lbs..
-I drove a car with ACT Stage III and the clutch had alot more pressure than my clutch. Also i have noticed that my clutch doesnt hook up untill I let out about 75% of the way. The ACT I drove seemed to hook up quicker.
-This had happend twice before last night and it happended twice last night. When I shift at redline into 2nd or 3rd the clutch never engaged. I was in gear just winding up my RPM's and I had no power to the wheels.
-Also I am noticing that if I do get it to shift into 2nd it is pretty hard to get it in there, like a little catch going in there. All the other gears seem ok but I have to put quite a bit more pressure to get it into 2nd and it is also griding alot going into 2nd at high RPM's
-I searched and found a post on here concerning the master cylinder so I looked up there where my clutch pedal is and sure enough I got this **** everywhere. Is this the cause of my problem and how do i fix it?

Thanks guys.

if your shifting into gears and the rpms climb but your not getting it to the wheels your DISC IS SLIPPING. on top of that your master cylinder is "seeping" fluid which may be why it feels a little harder to shft into 2nd (not enough pressure)

sounds like a clutch replacement and clutch master cylinder/slave cylinder replacement are in your future

i think you can find a new master cylinder for under 50 bucks at auto parts stores. You might want to check and see if it's leaking before you replace it. I JUST got done with a clutch replacement myself actually. I had the same problem where it was hard to engage gears. I inspected my release system thoroughly and found nothing wrong, so i was forced to pull the transmission. It turned out that i had broken a chunk of metal on the clutch disk itself, causing it to never fully disengage. So, this is something to consider when diagnosing your problem. Good luck!

Thanks a lot. I am very happy that i'm finished with it, and even more relieved that it all went together correctly. I have been driving it for a day or so now, and everything is working as it should. Now I can concentrate on my schoolwork and life in general.

friends talon was having the same prob and he swapped out his slave and master $50 and now his clutch is acting better than it was new. I on the other hand had a lil diff problems it was just my petal and one morning I woke up and there was clutch fluid running out from under my car I needed a new slave ($22) and just for later referance from discount auto parts I was quoted $125 for a master but I do not need one yet I think you should replace ure slave then master and if u are still having problems then u should start to worrie. good luck

alot of auto part stores dont sell the master cylinder (at least in my area) but they do carry the slave.

master cyl from dealer= about$100 -/+
slave cyl from auto parts store=about $40 -/+

i think these herculi pressure plates like ACT may contrtibute to premature wear. i have an ACT in my ride now and i'm plenty sick of the pedal presure. i'm going w/ the itr clutch kit w/ cm flywheel this time around, maybe even the cm stage 3.
