Default 88 CRX cam/ignition question

ok, I have a 88 dx with si cams/mpfi

i recently failed emissions, and the only thing the previous owner did after passing inspections was advance the cam timing and then i go to get inspected and i fail.

so im gonna fix this **** tommorow, but i have some questions. even though i just read about 5 pages of cam timing topics i still need to know:

im gonna set the cam to stock position, how will this effect my ignition timing? i'm not sure if the previous owner adjusted the ignition as he adjusted the cam, but im pretty sure he did, so if I retard the cam timing to stock, what will happen if i dont touch the ignition? so say for example the cam is advanced 2 degrees, and the ignition is at 4 degrees. i turn back the cam 2 degrees to stock, what happens to the ignition? does it automatically change to 2 degrees? im basically just worried that if i make the cam timing stock, then something bad will happen if i dont touch the ignition, im reading that the ignition should be reset after u adjust the cams, but i dont wanna mess with the ignition, becasue i dont have a light, and dont wana screw it up. any help would be much obliged, dave and ps, how do i actualy go about fixing the cam timing, do i turn it back with a torquewrench, or can u manualy turn it by hand?

im not tring to be a bigtime tuner yet, i jsut wanna pass emissions and im a beginner, so what should i do to get that sucka stock? although i did notice how the timing works, and as the cam is advanced, my higher rpms were better, and i had less torque, =more bogging, so its something id like to mess with thanks
