Everyone with an 03 R6 READ THIS...
Figure id start my own topic in here since it seems like some people got some 6s in here.
Make sure yall get the TSB on the Ignition coils resolved before warranty expires. My understanding is that every 03 R6 is affected, so even if you dont have symptoms get the bike in the shop.
My bikes been at the dealer for 10 days now b/c the coils are on backorder all over. So get your bike in there and get them fixed!!!

Hes right.
That is a bunch of BS about the 99-02 gear issue. I doubt anything will be done with that now. They are facing a huge crisis with the Road Star Warrior and one of the dirtbikes. Now I remeber why i always bought Honda

my bike doesnt have any problems yet (2002) but im sure once it peaks 10k for mileage, wear will start to show. the new FI r6's seem to be better where they have 5 dogs instead of the 3 that the 99-02's have. other than the little coil issue, id say its a great bike performance adn reliabilitywise so far.

is this an official "recall" or an "update" (like the 02 head bearing probs with the 954)??? was a notice sent out informing the buyers?? just need a heads up so i can pass the word to my friend who owns a 03 R6. she didn't mention anything about it.

Love the performance, cant argue that. It has a rectifier problem also, but i figure that wasnt as big of a deal as the ignition coils.

No, like i said in my first post it is a TSB. I guess you can call it an update, but the roadstar warrior is a recall. Its a common problem, all 03s are affected. Tell her to get her bike in there before warranty runs out, other wise she'll be paying.

Your dealer is full of ****. Do you own an R6? If you do take it in.
I can almost guarantee u it has the problem. Just b/c you dont have symptoms it doesnt mean they arent malfunctioning. My bike only had the smell of rubber burning every now and then, so i went in there and made up that it shut off on me and wouldnt start. Its sittin there now, and they said they are waiting on parts. The problme usually starts around 4 or 5k miles, mine has 2k on it and i smelt rubber. I knew if i waited the warranty would be gone.

Yes I have an 03' R6 and I plan on bring my bike in A.S.A.P. I called a couple more local dealers and the all prettey much said the same thing. But they offered to replace them regardless of signs of arcing or malfunctioning.
Here is the Yamaha Technical Bulletin #M2003-019
Symptom: The ignition consistently misfires during acceleration and one or more direct ignition coils arc to the cylinder head within the spark plug well.
Cause: Water intrusion and insufficient insulation of the outer plastic case of the direct ignition coil, insome cases, may allow electric current, in the secondary portion, to arc to the cylinder head.
Remedy: If the symptom is encountered, replace all four direct ignition coils with the new tipy direct ignition coils. The new coils have increased water intrusion resistance and improved insulation.
Dealer remedy: After confirming one or more direct coils show signs of arcing, install the four new-type direct ignition coils.

If i were you I wouldnt have asked the dealers anything, I woulda just taken it in and said you experienced the problem. I mean if you have a lot of time left on your warranty than thats cool, but i only got 3 1/2 weeks so im making sure that **** is getting done! Dont expect to get your bike back quick if you put it in..
I just took my bike in today. Eventhough my coils are showing no symptom's they are going to replace them. Accorind to the dealer my bike should be done by Saturday. Hopefully I will be able to ride by then.

Ha ha 58 on Sunday..lol You almost sound like my cousin in Indiana (where I'm originally from), I talked to him last Sunday when it was like 70 here and he was like yeah we're about to go riding for a couple of hours because it's nice and sunny outside for a change. I asked what the high was going to be and he said 37 close to 39 degrees. I simply replied with Damn f@#k that. Also, I'll be taking my bike in tomorrow seeing how it has over 6k miles and less than a months worth of warranty left. Thanks for the info guys and gals!
Yea dood, more people i can get the word out to, the quicker that SB will turn into a recall. Get your beast in the shop. Btw.. the Black and Red are faster than the othes
yeah i brought my bike in and it was replaced....you guys gotta bring in it no matter what....they are saying they only replace the ones that are miss firing and thats bull ****....i had to talk to the manager at the freakin store i bought it from just to replace them....so if you gotta 03...get that sh*t done...asaP
DJ: How long did it take to fix? Im on week 3 but its finally done. The reason im asking is because i missed the 70 degree days of riding for it to be in there. Also when i got it back the bike was very messy and it hadnt even looked like a bolt had been touched, not a fingerprint on it just dust and dirt. I guess i wont know for sure unless i open her up.

and he had this very same problem so to all of you that this my pertain to get the bike to the dealer because it will happen
