My car sounds like it's supercharged, the "whirring" has been pinpointed to the AC Compressor...
I don't know what's wrong, but my car has this weird supercharger "belt" sound. I suppose it'd be rather cool for people to think that my car's supercharged
, but, being the POS it is, i highly doubt that, haha.
I asked my mechanic one day when he was doing smog/maintenance and he pinpointed the sound to my AC compressor. It's kind of odd though, because my air conditioning works perfectly fine, and so does heating. The whirring sound will continue whether or not the "AC" button is depressed or not. And it also doesn't matter if my "fan" is set from 0-4, it'll whirr regardless. Basically once the car's on, that sucker whirrs.
What could be the problem? Could it be that the clutch on the compressor is bad and it's ALWAYS engaged? Cus i've noticed other cars make the same sound when they've been sitting idle for a while too... It's just that my car always does it.

mine does the same thing but its only in high revs when iam racing or driving fast and i have the a/c on i think a friend of mine once told me that it was just the a/c belt being old or altenator belts being old or something its nothing i worried about ....
Check your transmission fluid. When it is very low, or extremely dirty, the trans will make a supercharger noise that is progressive with the vehicle speed/revs. be careful though, check it soon. i know of a few trans. that busted because of this.

I have the exact same problem. It's the alternator bearing. You'll just have to get a new alternator.

What is that?!?!?!? It's not the alternator that is the problem...
If you can, take the belt off and manually turn the compressor... See if it is making any noise, if so, then you have your problem...

Its probably the bearings in your compressor i had the same thing happen to me... just disconnect your AC.... all it does is rob power anyway.... all you need to keep cool is roll down the windows and drive 70mph.... works for me... latez
Well, let's hope it's not the alternator or the tranny fluid, cus my mechanic used one of those heartrate listening things (stethoscope?) to find the problem. He just said it was the ac compressor though.
I'll try turning it by hand and i'll see what happens. But wait, if it's the bearings, the only thing i could so is to replace the compressor, right?

If your tech used a stethescope to isolate the problem, then i suspect he is right...
You have two choices...
If you want AC, then buy a new comp
If you don't want AC anymore, then just remove it.
