All motor ls or b16a2
OK im lookin for some pros and cons of both setups. If i stay with ls i have now i dont think id go lsvtec....not for a while at least. Id prolly go with cams maybe pistons plus the everyday boltons. Or should i swap in a B16 and folow the same and do the same thing(skunk2stg2+boltons...) What r ppl with b16's in their DA's seeing for times?

Figure that you're going to want a VTEC head and ECU, the necessary components to make it work, higher compression pistons, Then you have to come up with money for machine work, assembly, and then tuning. Add on to that a good header, a good intake manifold and a Hondata setup to be sure that the tuninig is good. I'd say that a well built LS/VTEC setup will cost upwards of $2500 or more when it's all said and done.
A decent turbo kit can be had off the shelf, or with a little bit of research and a little bit of work, a custom kit can be put together for as little as $1500. I don't think 250-275 whp is too much to ask of a custom kit if you invest in a Hondata setup and some tuning, and even with the Hondata, DSM injectors, a bigger fuel pump, and tuning, you still aren't hitting the $2500 mark.

I had a b16a2 i liked it but i tore it down and built a poor mans r if i could trun back time i would have gone turbo. save the money and go ls turbo check ebay, classifieds on honda-tech.

I know of mildly built all motor LS's that will walk on GSR's and Si's. Comments like your's aren't needed.

The only reason i dont think i would go turbo is its a daily driver and i cant afford to break a rod or somthin so i would need pisonts and rods and together those would probably be about 800.....
What was in these ls's that were beating gsr's?

well, i juse beat a gsr on friday night by 1 1/2 cars by 85mph.
i drive an NA LS non vtec. if you want to know my setup go here

Once i get the bottom end built (86mm pistons and darton sleeves just to give an idea of the build), and when i get the exhaust system, i hope to be well in the 13s. NA LS is good and reliable for the power. This car is my daily driver and i have no problems with it. if you have any other questions let me know

thanks man.
I love the cams. i have had no problems from them. the only problem i had with my setup was my idle. That problem was from the idle set screw on the BBK TB backing out on me. My car is extremely streetable. the only thing i would change is the clutch. i'd probly go with an organic clutch instead of a 6 puck. I dont make the power (as of right now) to merit the clutch.
I currently have the rev limiter set at 8000, but my powerband starts to decline at 7400, so i'll probly shift at 7600 or 7700. I will find out on saturday. i am not really worried about shortening the life of my bottom end because i hope to have it built by summer's end.
The cams shift the power band to the right significantly. I highly reccomend a shorter gear tranny to stay in the higher rpms. Also my setup needs an exhaust system (from header on) to free up a good amount of power i am losing.

how will vtec own him?? a boosted vtec motor vs. boosted non-vtec motor, non- vtec will loose, both w/ proper tuning and similar mods. and i never said that an LS couldnt beat a si. But both modded the vtec motor will be more powerful

your previous statement was even more retarded then that one. any motor can beat ne motor. doesnt matter if its vtec or non-vtec turbo or non turbo. depends what you do to it. i have a modded all motor ls, and i walk over gsrs. some can beat me though that have motor work and ive beatin some that have motor work, all depends what you do, and most importantly how well it was built and how well it was tuned and your knowledge about cars.
Your general statements about a ls would lose to vtec or a built ls would lose to a built vtec is totally in correct and you should think more about the answer when you are replying. There are just to many factors that go into a motor when trying to say if its better then another.

couldnt of said it any better.....thats y im building a N/A b20 so i can walk on all these ppl that see vtec as GOD when it comes to cars, and most of them dont know what vtec is and how it works , they just see vtec and think its fast.

i am boosting my 90 ls and it is going to cost me about $2600 for everything, turbo, intercooler, piping, fuel system, clutch, fuel computer, clutch, injectors, everything, tyhe piping saved me alot cause it is custom from home depot. doing s built ls/tec can easily be more expensive than that, i allready priced that route.
ok let me rephrase, my statements, cause im obvously coming across wrong!! vtec motors have more potential than non-vtec motor!
vtec b series > non vtec b series
vtec h series > non vtec h series
vtec f series > non vtec f series etc....
potential is what i mean!!!
vtec b series > non vtec b series
vtec h series > non vtec h series

Stock? Sure. Stop talking man, really. Like someone said earlier, it just depends on what you do. Could you make more power out of a GSR than an LS if you did the same mods? Probably. If that is the point you are trying to make, go away. Thats logic.

uhh ok dude get your head out of your ***, the thread started asked for pros and cons, and im tellin him the vtec motor will have more potential than the LS motor, if ya ask me, that def sounds like a pro. And heres a con before you cry about that too! vtec motor will cost more... happy?!?
Im prolly goin to use the ls motor bc i would rather spend the money building that since i already have it. So a few ppl said turbo but for the same money that i would have spent on NA...say like maybe 2500/3000$ could i build a turbo car that will be reliable enough to b a daily driver...im not lookin for crazy numbers either if i went turbo id shoot for 225 is that unreasonable for an ls without sleeving?(forged internals tho)

well, i see that as wrong i mean yes the vtec motors have the ability to get more power, but at what rpm? i know that a built gs-r motors has to rev to like 9k to make power. the ls on the other:build would only have to rev to like 7.8k to make its power. i mean now they have vtec KILLER cams that eliminate the vtec function and make it run more like an ls motor. IMO ls motors have the same "potential" as any b-series motor.
