Default Need Some Head Advise

Hey guys i was just planing on duing headwork like cams, valve springs/retainers, cam gears i was also planing on getting the head port and polished and a 3 angle valve job. But my concern is i was going to get the head milled to but i have heard from some people that that isn't a good idea with performance cams..... so if anyone can further elaberate and explain why it isn't a good idea pleas let a brother know before i could posible do some damage to me engine.

Thanks alot

high performance cams = high lift

high lift + milled head = valves kissing pistons = dropping all the valves

Mine is milled .020" and I have performance cams with plenty of room. I know 'cause I clayed the pistons. I you have a closed deck engine like H22/H23 pre-1996 then you can just get a thinner head gasket as opposed to milling the head. If you have 96-01 then i would mill the head since the open deck headgasket is somewhat structural

it all depends on how aggressive the cams are and how high compression the pistons are.
if you mill a little just to clean up the deck then i wouldnt worry about it much.. if you are using a pretty big cam and higher compression pistons clay the motor first to be safe

its like a semi hard modeling clay.. the stuff thats not real sticky to other surfaces.. here is a very good write up on claying a motor
