clutch in, car still moves. HELP ASAP!!!!!!!
ok, i got a 90 crx with a dohc zc with the stock dx tranny. i got a brand new clutch in that i'm still breaking in. the stock vss (vehicle speed sensor) was pulled out to make way for the siR vss.but before that went in, i steamcleaned the engine and bay. before i did though, i noticed that the car was starting to have trouble going into gear (any gear).
now, with the car running, it won't go into gear period. with the car shut off, i can put it into any gear smoothly. so i tried putting it into first and then starting the car and the car will creep forward with the clutch in. now my clutch cable was untouched. that part should still be good. i'm thinking i'm either low on gear oil or some water found its way into the tranny. what can i do to fix this ?!!? i hope my clutch disc is still good. i didn't punch it at all and shift smoothly.

Sounds to me like the clutch isn't disengaging fully. I'm not an expert, but I had a similar problem in my '91 prelude and it ended up being the slave cylinder. I think they said at the time tho that air in the system could cause a similar problem. Good luck.

I had the same symptoms and it was my clutch cable, replaced it and the car ran fine!
Try adjusting yours and see if it helps....

I had the same problem and i thought it was the clutch I figured it out after i read somones post on a broken clutch pedal, sure as **** i looked up under the dash and there it was broken mount which holds the pedal, the welds seemed to crack. it was a good thing i didnt replace my cluth, but it sucked repalcing the pedal assembly too. now it works great. hope that helps!good luck

... this is probably what it is assuming the clutch is installed right... as the clutch wears more and more you have to keep adjusting your cable so that it will engage and disengage properly so if your clutch was worn pretty badly and you put a brand new clutch in without messing with the cable then its prob way too tight... therefore your clutch is pretty much disengaged the whole time

well, the cable is fine. i checked that. i replaced my tranny fluid. all that is good.
the problem i have is: with the car off, i can shift fine. when it's on, it will not go in gear unless i have the car on jackstands. the weird thing is, when i put it in first and the clutch is all the way in, the wheels turn. also, the higher the gear (2, 3, 4, etc) the faster the wheels turn. all the while i have the clutch in and i'm not giving it any gas at all. i dunno. is my $400 act clutch fucked or is it my tranny that's fucked. i hope it's neither. thanks.

WHY are you using a DX tranny, that thing TOTALLY SUCKS on a ZC, I know because I did that for 1 weeks before I went out and got something else.
I am willing to bet id you have the propper freeplay adjusted into the cable you have the clutch disk installed backwards.

1st check pedal freeplay, if it is too much, tighten the cable. if you still have the problem, checkk the pedal stops, adjust them to spec, recheck pedal freeplay. if you still have the problem, take of your trans and see whats fucked.

I second that. If that doesn't work you HAVE to take it appart to find out what failed. You can talk about it all you want, but if soemthing is bad inside it HAS to come apart.

dx tranny is all i got. i will turbo it later when bugs are straightened out. the cable is fine. tension and all that is good. i think my clutch fucked up. and that sucks too because i have a $400 clutch. (act xtreme pp, hybrid street perf disc)
if it's the tranny, then i'll look for a Si one. but i doubt my tranny is bad. i think the clutch isn't disengaging all the way.

if u changed the clutch u should have removed the clutch cable
so that means the clutch cable was played with and might be not properly adjusted
second, a bad pressure plate causes that sometimes (but a new one wouldnt so this is not the case)
a trow out bearing woudlnt really cause this issue
i say: check and adjust the cable... by someone that knows what hes doing
then post a reply

SOme cars that is true for but not all, some will go in backwards. I have done clutches, on Fiats, Triumphs, Chevy's, Fords, Plymoths, AMC, Honda and a Mazerati. Saying that you can not put one in backwards is a blanket statement that is just not true in all cases.
THey will go in, even look like it fits but interfere enough with the springs ETC causing exactly the kind of drag and symptoms he is experienceing. I . E. clutch dragging or not releasing fully. I have replaced clutches in ever car I have owned the last 27 years.

i got the car up on lifts now. i noticed that when i turn one of the front tires, the other one doesn't move at all...?? isn't the other one supposed to turn the opposite way?
ok, i was able to get it into gear now. my shop teacher said i must've got water into my tranny when I cleaned the engine bay yesterday. he said to let the car run for a while and see if any leftover water since I drained it yesterday would evaporate. so we did just that. to my surprise, it worked. i can shift into any gear now. i do get some tranny noise though. but i can shift. i'm temporarly using 5w30 in the tranny but i'll pick up some gear oil when i get the chance.
what could those noises be? thanks everyone.

Probly the reason you have tranny noise is since you had water in your tranny it froze the forks in the tranny. And if its hard to go in gear, grinding, noises its from you using a way to thin tranny fuild. Its alright to use it on newer trannies. But older trannies need thicker tranny fuild like 80-120. Try the **** stephen used in his tranny.
Just because the cable appears to be fine doesn't mean it is. Did you make sure it was working good bro? Cause mine looked fine but upon further review, this was the result:
Notice that plastic piece that is broken in 4 pieces?

old cable and new cable:

Old one is the bottom one, that piece broken is made of plastic, opposed to metal like the OEM one I bought.
