stripped axle thread - axle recommendations please!
the threads on my driver's side axle seem to have been stripped/damaged when the axle nut was improperly installed with an airgun (not sure how else this could happen). the rest of the axle/cv joints/etc seem perfectly fine although they do have 60k miles on them.
it seems replacing just the axle itself costs almost as much as a new axle. therefore, i can buy a new oem axle for $450
or explore what the aftermarket has to offer.
does anyone have strong opinions on gator axles, raxles, etc? this is for a 01 R that is daily driven, sees several hpde events each summer, and makes roughly stock R power (170whp).

Is that subtracting the core charge? Cause that's what it sounds like to me. And personally, Autozones were cheaper than NAPA.
Of course it's entirely possible that you get what you pay for.
Aaron, talk to Chris. He has alot of experience with all sorts of axles and breaking/exploding them. I'm positive he can steer you in the correct direction.

i called marty @ raxles and he's hooked me up with their oem-grade axle for $119 (after core return). you guys should keep him in mind if you need to replace an axle; you can be sure his stuff is much better quality than autozone stuff.
