Intermittant Speedometer Issue
I own a 92 Prelude SI with 170,000 miles. Once in a while the speedometer will drop to 0 and the engine burps a little. After a few miles the Speedometer needle will go back to the correct reading and the engine feels smoother. This can happen at low or high(70mph) speeds. The check engine light came on a few times, but as of late has been off. How do I read the engine codes?
Any idea what may cause this? Thanks

yeah that's what I would think as well. But what's off is the engine problems. I wouldn't think you would have any problems with the engine burping. I would check your ignition wiring and fuse. Do you have anything plugged into your cig lighter??
Reason I ask is that I have a broken cell charger and it caused my car to do the same thing. Then it popped the IGN fuse under the hood. I would try checking any connections you might have made in say your stereo or something. Sounds like something is grounding out somewhere.

No, nothing in the lighter. So your car did the same thing? I have noticed lately that the left tweeter in my dash is crackling once in a while. I have a 4 channel amp in the trunk that may have issues. I'll have to check. Thanks for your help.
check that amp and see if it is grounding out.
That might be your whole problem, but I am gonna say its 2 different ones.
1. the speed sensor
2. grounding, ignition, fuel or compression problems

So when you say after a few miles it will go back to working normally does the engine run fine when it is messing up? Mine the speedo only messed up while the engine was kind of burping. The speedo is electric so that's why I say it's a short somewhere. Have you noticed if your dash lights mess up when this is happening? like the fuel/temp gages flicker?
The second I feel the engine burp the speedo goes to zero. Then I can feel when the engine goes to normal and the speedo works again. When I have to stop and the speedo doesn't work, as I shift it is really jerky compared to when the speedo works. Also, the odometer stops turning. None of the other lights flicker. My clock has been flickering bright to dim, but this has been happening much longer than the speedo/odo issue. I'll check my amp this evening.
