vir and the damage done
saturday i got the great news that willard would be my instructor! we progressed quickly and were getting around the track pretty well throughout the day.
sunday started great, the first 2 sessions were easily that fastest i've been around vir. my troubles came in the 3rd session. towards the end of the session, my clutch started to feel a bit off, but we knew something was wrong during the cool down lap when we noticed smoked billowing out of my car.
we parked and saw tranny fluid dripping out of the case
super crew chief dan yoo dropped the tranny and we found the throwout bearing flange had broken. we haven't pulled the tranny completely apart, but we're guessing the dime size piece broken off the bearing ripped the main shaft seal allowing the fluid to leak onto the clutch and out of the case. we found the culprit wedged into the teeth of the pressure plate. the reason the clutch wasn't grabbing well is because it was coated in mtl. we found no hole in the case

is there any known cause of a broken throwout bearing? simple part failure and bad luck? improper installation?
the only foreign object in the tranny is the toda flywheel.
so a $30 part has caused a $750 tow back to nj, many hours of labor, and alot more $ in new parts.
