Default Blue smoke when gearing down

I've been loosing oil for the past while and I've just noticed smoke in the rear view.
The smoke only appears when I'm gearing down and I tap the gas or when I'm gearing down then stop at a light. It doesn't seem to be happening that much when I'm accelerating, however it does a little bit.

I did a leak down test and they were all between 9% and 11%.
I built the motor a year and a half ago I put new rings and did all the valve seals.

I did search but didn't get any definite answers.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i believe it's caused by blowby. If it's happening when your in gear slowing down (load on the engine) oil gets past the rings, then you tap the gas and the engine burns the oil (smoke)....check your pcv valve make sure it's not clogged.

So you think the oil rings might be shot. How would I find out for sure that its rings not valve seals.

from my experience, blowing smoke while engine braking is usually valve stem seals and under acceleration is the rings

Thanks for all your help guys I change the pcv and it still smokes so looks like the valve seals it is. It does smoke sometimes a tiny bit under acceleration but not often mostly just gearing down. Thanks again.

Does the motor smoke on startup too? If so, its definately valve stem seals. Decelleration blue smoke is also a very good indication of bad valve seals as well.

It smokes sometimes on start ups but only when the vehicle is pointing down hill.

To determine if it is ring or valve problems:

Perform a compression test and record your numbers, then squirt some oil into the cylinders and repeat the compression test. If your compression numbers go up with the oil in the cylinders then you have a problemn with your rings, if not valves.
