How to check to see if my AC compressor still works??
Hey guys, I bought my car used about 1.5 years ago. The last owner had all the records for the car. As I was reading through them one said that the mechanic replaced the belts...but used the F22 belt that bypassed the AC compressor. All it said was, "AC inoperable now).
I am curious how I can test it to see if it still works. Is there a quick way to check??
Based on the records....the AC compressor has not been turned for close to 2 years.

if the pulley turns by hand then try getting a belt and give it a shot. I bet it won't work right now but might if it gets charged. Did you ever ask the previous owner why they did this? Maybe just for more power...
Like he said, check to see if you can turn both the pulley and the clutch by hand. If you can, the system is probably good. Usually the compressor is bypassed because the bearing for the pulley siezes.
For the most part if the compressor is good it shouldn't be a problem to run it again. I've only seen one line explode after a car had not run the air for about 2-3 years. We were just glad the tech wasn't standing over the motor at the time.
