Hi, I just recently changed my alt/PS/AC belts,

How hard do I push on the belt to measure the deflection listed in the Helms?? I'm afraid I will make them too tight. Right now they make noise (too loose), but I thought I made them pretty tight. Maybe it's just the alt belt... that one was hard to get tight.

use a pry bar and lean on it quite a bit ......you'll know when you get it tight enough it's not hard!

i used a crowbar and it was quite simple!

 

when i check the deflection of the belt, how hard do i push on the belt?

 

i couldn't really tell you exactly .......tho it should say in a helms/haynes manual, or just give your local Honda dealer a shout, they'll tell ya for sure!

 

it says push on it with a force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf). Anyone know how hard this is?

 

well if it says to push at 22 lbs....thats not a whole lot ......i would just suggest pushing on it about as hard as you would tighten a bolt with a rachet.....about a good push....if that makes any sense at all to you!

 

And remember to check the tension at the point that is in the middle of the longest open stretch of belt.

 

I just give them a decent push until my finger starts to bend at the end joint. If it deflects very much, I tighten it up.
