Default VSS problem (search but havnt found the answer) HELP!!!!! HELP!!!!!

i drive a gsr ej hatch, i recently got a cel 17, so it my vss. My speedo is just dead. i figure its bad vss or connection problems. i heard that i can use my old d-series vss, so i swap it out and got the same problem speedo wont move and same cel 17. i then got a new gsr vss, and even swap out the cluster just incase that could be the problem too.

i did the following

1. got new vss
2. change cluster
3. clean plug
4. reset ecu

what else can it be. i dont mind the speedo being dead but i do mind not having vtec. calling all honda gurus i need your HELP!!!!

Yep check the plug first, then if that doesn't work check to make sure that you don't have a wire shorting out.....it took me over 2 weeks to figure it out

One other thing is I think some cars have a fuse for the VSS (and something else also) see if your car has one and check it out...pretty obvious but hey you never know

The way I finally fixed mine after having the exact problems that you both are having was I rewired 2 of the 3 wires from the plug to thier locations. I had my power wire both having a positive electrical current and acting as a ground, and my speedo signal wire did the same. I just ran a new wire from the plug to the shock tower group of wires ( my short was somewhere in between there) and ran a wire directly to my positive battery terminal. The ground wire on the plug was fine so I left it alone. I then routed all the wires througn the stock harness (with zip ties) to clean it up and it was great. Took about 20 minutes and never had one problem after that

check your alternator plug, mine needed cleaned up alittle and was loose and it killed my speedo, just sat their didn't move. also, take out your VSS and put your finger into your tranny, and see if the gear that is susposed to move the vss is loose. mine came off of the diff and was just laying freely in the tranny, so my speedo would never work correctly untill i got the worm gear pressed back on.
