Default looking for a new bike in the 600cc class(any indeas or tips)

this spring id like to step up from the 250cc street class to 600 cc class..one of my buddies has a 88.. i believe its an 88 honda hurricane 600cc..im not sure which model it is but its a a nice bike....he just dosent take car of it, or do any routine matience to it..ha also payed 1500 for it and i feell he got ripped off just by looking at how rigged the bike is...but when i rode it i fell in love with the way the 600 feels ..so now i want a 600 ..im looking for somthing in the $1000-$2000 range and it has to be a 1989 honda cbr 600..can anyone give me any ideas on what to look for when looking to buy this used bike?..besides checking fluids and making sure everything works and signs of it being wrecked?..i dont really care about comsmetic looks because i paint cars for a living and the bike will be painted asap as long as the fairing and the bike is complete...also if anyone knows of anyone selling a 89 honda cbr 600 in illinois please let me know..thanks

Personally, I would recommend staying away from the original F1 bikes. They don't have as many spares available compared to the F2 (91-94) or F3 (95-98) bikes. Saving up for an F2 could cost you less in the long run.

Look for any drilled bolts, which indicates safety-wire, which means the bike was taken out to the track at least once. It doesn't mean it's a bad bike, but just something to keep in your mind. Does it have a clear title?

I agree. I would try to find an F2. If it's going to be a track bike, I think you will be much happier with it.

its not gonna be a track bike..just a daily cruiser..i actually found a 93 for 1600 bucks but that seems like a low price for a newer bike..ill have to go check it out i guess

yea believe me id love to have bike thats as new as possible but my budget only allows me to go so far..most likely ill be able to buy a f2..but in my area ive been looking for a while and selection is very limited for the f2's...its hard to even find a f1..but ill just keep lookin ..im looking to spend 2000 at the most for a 600cc bike..this will be my first 600 that ive owned and i want a cheaper but reliable one..so yes it seems the f2 would be best for the money ..but if by spring all i can find is f1's i might have to get one
