Default New buyer looking for a 90-93 teg

Hey everyone, Im new to this forum and im in the market for a 90-93 teg and I'm curious as to if theres any flaws or downsides to owning an integra, like structurally and mechanically. Me and my dad had this arguement at dinner about how they werent great cars, i beg to differ. But now I'm just curious as to why he would say that!

Anyone ever had any serious problems with thiers?

Thanks for your time!

I have a 91, and I have had it for three years, and right now I put it to the side and I blown a motor from just plain abusing it, I now have a Civic Type R powered B16A2 engine in there, the car hasn't moved in about 2 years. Once you get your first Integra you will never buy anything else again, these cars are so easy to work on and will just totally abuse Civics and many other import cars, with the right mods your car will be quick and the chassis is great for autox or road racing. I have owned other cars like a 95 GSX, and I also have a AE86 Corolla, and will be getting a new GSR sometime this week, but ever since I got my license 2 years ago I have been in love with my Teg and could never part with it. These cars are buy far some of the best cars Honda has ever produced.

The Integra should prove to be plenty reliable if well maintained and not abused. In fact one of my best friends has a DA that wasn't well maintained and was abused and it still runs fine. Don't expect to pay a lot, maybe 2 or 3 thousand dollars for a good one.

Just so you know, the CTR came with a B16B, not a B16A2.

Oh, you're in Canada. Convert 2 or 3 grand to Canadian and I suppose $4200 isn't all that bad, but if you look harder, you can still probably find a better deal.

I've had my 92 Integra LS for a year now and I absolutely love it. As everyone
else will tell you, as long as the car is maintained (oil, belts, the usual), it'll last
an awfully long time. You'll find that tegs not only last but are a lot of fun to drive.
One fairly common issue older teg owners expierence is rusting aroung the wheel
well areas but that problem can easily be prevented if you stay on top of things.
This time last year I thought of buying a VW. Now I say to myself, "What the f**k
was I thinking?".

My gen2 teg photos can be viewed via these links:

*smacks his head against the desk* I HAAATE this whole currency crap! Its such a pain in the a$$!

So if im looking at a 90 GS for $4200 CAN (about 3100 USD) with say like above 211xxx km's (about 131xxx miles) should i make an offer for about say 3600-3800? Does that sound about right?

Because 2,000.00 USD = 2,667.00 CAD
and
3,000.00 USD = 4,000.50 CAD

And around here a 90 with anything above 220000km is a lil steep for 4200, but thats just my guess on what i've seen.

3600-3800 Canadian does sound about right. I still think you can find a better deal, but if this one is in great shape then it might be your best bet.

be patient. if you do that...then the perfect car will come right to you. nine times out of ten, the first car you look at isn't going to be the perfect one, muchless the one you buy.

just be patient, look around a lot (autotrader, newspaper classifieds...etc) and you'll be fine.

hey man

the 2nd gen tegs are great, I've got a 92 LS

I'd suggest you spend more than 4000 on one though, or you'll get one in pretty rough shape

also get one with lower kms, it's not the engine you have to worry about with honda's, but the older the suspension, the worse the ride

the 90-91's have 10 less hp than the 92-93's

and in 92 and 93 there was a G2 GS-R (the only G2 with vtec)

check out http://www.g2ic.com (an amazing resource)

i can understand your dad's concerns. look hard for a fine example. they are getting to be pretty old now but are excellent cars. another fine honda. make sure you have a car inspected for any abuse, possible problems, etc. the brake master cylinder is known to fail after a while. the radiator is always suspect. make sure the timing belt and water pump has been changed within the last 90k miles. if it hasn't, look at a pretty steep bill for that. it HAS to be changed immediatly.
you're in the right price range. i've had very little problems with mine, just issues that come with having a car around for a long time. luckily...my dad bought it new, so i knew the history of it.

good luck.

Hey d00d, I've had my '91 RS for about 3-3 1/2 years now & am still in love with it !!! Even if I get more income 7 end up getting another car, I'll still keep my RS ... A lot of people will say (my Dad included) that its a waste to keep pumping money into a car as old as mine, but I have to strongly disagree ... There's a strong product support base out there for these cars, and if you look through g2ic, there's a lot of stuff being sold for dirt cheap prices, plus people are ready to help you at the drop of a hat, being of course that you properly research your question beforehand. People generally don't like to spoonfeed newbs on g2ic, but i think it's good, as it motivates you to find the answers on your own ...

Yeah man...I love these cars.I've had 4 so far. The only advice I can tell you is stay away from the abused automatics. Once the solenoid's start going in the trans...its all down hill from there. O yeah...Im selling mine...if you or anyone else is instrested. Its a 93 ls 2 door auto, 126k, red, NO RUST, 94 gs-r fat fives. Gimmie 900 bucks and its yours...im serious. Whats the catch? Well...it was wrecked and will have a R-title...but its fixed and needs only a windshield, new back tires and some mis. stuff. E-mail me at oneslowda@yahoo.com or AOL im oneslowda...seriously.(I'd post all this elsewhere but im not 'authorised')
